How Plausible Is An NFL Franchise in London?

BY NISAR KHAN

With the American Football fanbase vastly growing in the UK, there has been a lot of talk about a possible franchise based in London. But how likely is this, and what are the pros and cons?

The most key factors and complications are broken down in this article as we evaluate the possibility of NFL having a team based in London.

From a long, up to 11 hour flight from US to UK, a national Stadium that could cause a stir and Brits loving an American game, the argument could go either way.

Time Frame & Travel

Getting NFL players across the Atlantic week in and week out could cause some problems. However, in this case the scheduling of NFL games benefits the NFL London franchise.

Flights on average from the United States to the UK can range from six to eleven hours. While this brings problems in regards to more playing and possible practice time being wasted on a flight, it still seems possible considering that it will be out of one week.

It can still not be overlooked though, considering that up to 24 hours could be consumed on flights and travel alone (including times for checking, other complications) meaning that it will have a knock-on effect on the next week of training.

As for the possible London franchise itself, they could be on a road trip around the States meaning that they won’t have to spend as much time travelling from UK to US, although still travelling around the States.

Another advantage in the favor of the London franchise is the no-game weeks for clubs. They could be scheduled following the team’s away fixture in London so not as much time is consumed and practice may not be hindered.

Stadium

Wembley Stadium has hosted the NFL International Series games over the past years and could be the host for the London franchise itself.

With that being said, having Wembley Stadium for the season will not only come at a great financial cost but may not be possible considering its other uses like the England national team and several events.

Whether the UK would consent from the general public to dedicate one of its marquee stadiums to a non-British sport remains to be seen, although support for the NFL has soared over the recent years.

Each team plays sixteen games over the 17-week period, so they play 8 games at their home stadium along with a possible wildcard game and playoffs along with 2 preseason fixtures.

At the moment Wembley Stadium sees up to three NFL games per season, it would take some doing to increase that, but it is not as much commitment as it first seems. A wild possibility would be varying stadiums throughout London, but that may not be obliged.

There have been sell-outs for regular NFL season games in London. GETTY IMAGES

Scheduling

A London franchise throws in more complications to the already rampant job of NFL schedulers.

They would need to consider the trips taking the toll on the visiting team and how this problem can be bypassed, along with when the stadium is free. This could take up most of the time in working towards the franchise.

Categorizing

With 32 teams currently in the NFL, how would adding a team affect this? In addition, which conference would the London franchise be situated in?

Considering its the National Football League, it isn’t exactly designed to make way for InterNational teams, so this would require a major change in the NFL system.

Support

This reason is how the argument and speculation about the franchise came about in the first place. With such a vast, growing support for the National Football League in the UK, Wembley (or another stadium possibly) will often be packed to the rafters as the Brits get more of the NFL.

If three games for the NFL 2014 International series were able to sell out so quickly, then adding a few more won’t hurt, it will bring more fans in along with attracting the rest of the European fanbase.

Away fans

Like in any sport, while a team may have home advantage, there is always support for the away side.

This matter may be different should an NFL franchise come to London. Support will be nearing 100% in favor of the Londoners, and not many may make the trip across the Atlantic to be part of the game – even if they do there won’t be enough.

—————–

It could still be some time before the NFL London talk really reaches a focal point, but these key points support either side of the argument.

What do you think? Will an NFL franchise better the league, and could it really happen? Comment in the section below this article or send us a Tweet.

Should the commission go forth and expand to London, it would be a bold move that would take adaptations from the rest of the league.

Seattle Seahawks Win First Super Bowl in 43 – 8 Rout of Denver Broncos

BY NISAR KHAN

Super Bowl XLVIII
Sunday 2 February 2014
MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Seattle Seahawks 43 – 8 Denver Broncos

NEW JERSEY – Seattle Seahawks won their first ever Super Bowl in history after they dominated the Denver Broncos with a convincing 43- 8 victory at the MetLife Stadium.

Seattle Seahawks defense overwhelmed the Denver Broncos in a huge victory. IMAGE COURTESY: CNN

From a huge error to start the game and from then on in, the Seahawks would easily cruise to the win as they built their win affirmatively.

It was a problematic night for the Denver Broncos, who only got one touchdown in the game along with a two-point conversion.

Seattle would comfortably be raised victorious, with Broncos looking far from a threat.

Full Game Report

First half

Denver Broncos opened the game with a twenty-yard return, after Seattle Seahawks won the coin toss and elected to receive in the second half. It was a hilarious coin toss with NFL legend John Namath, sporting a furry coat and having to toss the coin twice since his first was premature.

Seattle Seahawks had the best start to the game, with a two-point safety in the first play. Poor communication resulted in the ball going over Peyton Manning and Seattle Seahawks already lead by two points, merely twelve seconds into the game, becoming the fastest score in SuperBowl history, and also giving Mark Cuban a chance to troll the Internet.

Percy Harvin was involved in a big second play for the Seattle Seahawks, progressing the ball, and almost getting a touchdown, but he was knocked out of bounds during his run. It would be very contrasting to the play that followed, with Denver on a 2nd & 15 from a flag for a premature start – only for Russell Wilson’s throw to his tight-end to be dropped. Seattle would pull through for the 1st down, a big third down conversion from the Seahawks to keep early momentum.

Seattle’s third down play was initially called a yard off resulting in a fourth down. The Seahawks challenge saw the ball moved closer, but not enough for a first down, resulting in a field goal attempt from 26 yards. However, in the second flag of the game less than five minutes for a premature offensive start, Seahawks were taken back to a 31 yard attempt, of which was converted and Seahawks took a 5 – 0 lead.

Another flag in Denver Broncos’ possession brought the ball up by five yards onto their own 35. Denver would find themselves with their first down five minutes into the game. It was caught my Thomas but short for the first down. Seahawks would be back in possession following the punt from the Broncos.

A good catch from Golden Tate would allow the Seahawks to avoid another three-and-out. However, in their second set of downs, they would find themselves on another third down, with Russell Wilson being caught in some trouble, having to flip the ball forward resulting in 3rd and 5. They would convert the third down in emphatic fashion with a 27-yard throw from Russell Wilson to Bailey, resulting in 1st and goal. Another flag would send them back, and soon would find themselves on another third down. After they failed to convert, a field goal late in the first quarter would see them end the first fifteen minutes 8 – 0 up.

With Denver Broncos in possession to start the second quarter, things would quickly go pear-shaped once again with Seattle’s defence taking its toll. Peyton Manning’s pass was intercepted by Chancellor, and eventually the Seahawks would progress the ball for a touchdown to lead by 15 – 0 following the conversion.

Around five minutes into the second quarter, and Denver’s first 1st down of the game would come. Till that point, the Seahawks had been doing a great job of containing Manning and keeping him on the pitch for as little as possible. When he was on the pitch, he would also have little time to throw the ball, with Seattle forwarding at a quick pace.

It was looking to be another third-and-out for the Broncos with a third and long. However, a big pass from Manning would take them to the third yard line, for a new set of downs. Slowly, but surely, Denver were starting to find their rhythm, with second and inches after the next play fell short of a first down. However, the Seahawks gave them a sturn reminder of their defensive capabilities, pushing them back to 2nd & 22. After making nine yards, Broncos were back on a third down, and it would prove disastrous.

Peyton Manning was under pressure and forced to throw it away. Malcolm Smith would intercept and run it to the end zone for a touchdown that firmly put the game into Seattle’s hands. It would be converted also, resulting in Seattle leading 22 – 0. It was Seattle’s sixth interception of the game, the Seahawks defense was running riot.

With 3:21 remaining of the second quarter, Seattle’s kick to Denver resulted in another turnover, of which was then reviewed. It was reviewed and Broncos retained possession. Yet again, another 3rd and long would be on the cards. After Peyton missed a throw, and Seattle’s defence contained him, they failed to convert in another third down short of the next set of downs.

Seahawks would finish the half up by twenty-two points in a dominant defensive performance, while Peyton Manning was not able to conjure up any offense good enough to even register a point in the first half.

Half-time show

Bruno Mars delivered an incredible performance during the half-time show to light up the sky in New Jersey and keep MetLife Stadium rocking.

Performing with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Bruno Mars performed a few of his GRAMMY-Award winning hits, lighting up the sky above the MetLife with some spectacular firework displays.

MetLiving: Bruno Mars created a vibrant atmosphere during halftime at MetLife Stadium.

Second Half

Seattle Seahawks had an incredible start to the second half. Percy Harvin received the ball from the kick-off, and returned it all the way for a touchdown, a flashback to Jacoby Jones’ return at the SuperBowl last year in the first play of the second half back then.

Denver Broncos were really up against it now. And their first set of downs had another third down with a 3rd & 3 this time. At this rate they were going nowhere, Peyton needed to reinforce the passes that made his MVP year. Luckily for him, he wouldn’t need to convert, with a defensive penalty resulting in a five yard progression for Broncos’ first down.

Peyton Manning failed to convert yet again, and soon after he would be replaced for the defensive line. Peyton Manning’s first throw was off towards the end zone, the second saw the receiver knocked out his hands and the third was a yard back. On came the defensive team again…

On this occasion, Seahawks would not convert with the possession, and the ball would be punted back to the offense. Just as Peyton Manning was on the verge of completing a touchdown pass, the ball was out in the open, and the Seahawks got possession. Yet ANOTHER turnover…

An incredible catch from Jermaine Kearse followed by a conversion would surely settle the game. Russell Wilson through it to Kearse, who span out twice to beat defenders, striving into the end zone for a spectacular touchdown. It was converted, and now Seahawks lead 36 – 0.

At least the Broncos didn’t leave with nothing, but it took their team three quarters to register their first points, with a tremendous catch in the end zone followed by a two point try. Three quarters done and Seahawks lead 36 – 8.

After two plays, Seattle Seahawks were able to progress the ball back into Denver territory. Denver may have scored before the end of the third quarter, but the Seahawks were ensuring an undoubted SuperBowl victory.

While Denver often encountered trouble with their third down conversions, the Seahawks were doing just fine, as they were able to get a new set of downs. Early in the fourth, Russell Wilson ran out of some trouble to make a great throw, followed by a great catch from the receiver for a first down. Jermaine Kearse would make another great catch. Russell Wilson’s second TD pass of the game fell to Doug Baldwin, who saw off four Broncos defenders to get to the end zone of poor, soft defending. It was also converted, to make it 43 – 8 for the Seahawks.

With Broncos back in possession, a similar story would re-occur, third-and-out for Denver. Seattle were back on the offensive, with another third down after two plays, just a yard away.

Richard Sherman did not return to the game after picking up an ankle injury in the fourth quarter.

Seattle Seahawks would not convert the next time for the third down, and tried it for a 4th & 1, this time unsuccessful. As the Lombardi Trophy was brought to the touchline, Denver were back in possession.

There was yet another turnover, to add to Broncos problematic night, as the Seahawks were back in possession.

The clock would wind down and the whistle blew, the Seahawks had won their first Super Bowl in franchise history.

Broncos couldn’t catch the Seahawks throughout the whole game

Comment & Analysis: Perfectly scripted Seahawks’ defence crumbles Peyton and Broncos

A dominant first half from Seattle. Their defense completely obliterated Denver’s with six picks in the first half. Peyton Manning simply did not have enough time to make a good play, making it easy pickings, literally, for the Seattle Seahawks.

It was a disastrous start that kind of set the tone for the first half of action, with Peyton Manning’s poor communication leading the two-point safety. Peyton Manning had a poor first half, with his passes being picked off or being thrown way off. Seattle had contained the MVP thus far.

At one time, when the Broncos were slowly conjuring up some good plays, they received a vast, quick reminder of Seattle’s defense, with the interception and then touchdown.

Turnovers came in numbers to start, Denver Broncos simply had no answer to the strong Seattle defense.

Twelve seconds into both halves and there was a score, with a superb touchdown from Percy Harvin in the second, and the two-point safety to start the game also.

Percy Harvin’s second half touchdown in the first play after the interval was the worst thing to happen for the Broncos. Coming out with an attempted rejuvenated attitude and motivated to get back in the game, it was almost as if Harvin took it away from them instantly.

Peyton Manning could simply not get anything done. When he was able to get throws off at a good enough quality (when it wasn’t jeopardized by Hawks’ defence), the receivers were annihilated and unable to progress the ball or receive. Solid defense from the Hawks.

One of the best plays of the game by far was Jermaine Kearse’s touchdown. Two spins to get away, and like I read on Twitter, it was like Jermaine Kearse using skills on NFL Videogame, MADDEN. That awesome touchdown really just further instated the win.

At least Denver didn’t leave with nothing, as they still got one touchdown along with a two-point try before the third quarter was done with. Fantastic catch, if only they played like this from the start…

That would prove a mere anomaly. Seahawks showed up the Broncos’ offense with their own superb offense, Russell Wilson’s passes were well caught even in the hardest of circumstances. Doug Baldwin’s touchdown was far too easy, the defenders were incredibly soft on him, with four in his way, he managed to get through – there’s your problem clearly shown.

Turnovers, great passing, and a well-oiled machine called the Seahawks, that’s what happened at the SuperBowl, that is what got their first SuperBowl win and dispatched the Broncos at ease.

Denver’s Miscues

It started from the first play, and would lead to more points. From the two-point safety, two the picks and Peyton missing completely. It was just a terrible outing for the Denver Broncos. They may have had the league’s best offense, but that offense was outdone by the Seahawks’ overpowered defense. Broncos failed to click. Simple as that.

Seattles Defense, and Offense Proves the Best

Prior to this game, Seattle Seahawks had the title of the league’s best defense. At the Super Bowl, they showed that their offence was significantly better too. Russell Wilson, a young quarterback with plenty of his career ahead of him, he really outdid Peyton with his throwing tonight, be it his running out of trouble then throwing, or just running alone. And his receivers were a real credit, too.

Peyton’s woes won’t affect legacy

Peyton Manning really didn’t turn up for the game, but nonetheless, he has been an influential part of the league for years, and this takes nothing away from his extraordinary season.

Twelfth man triumph

For Seattle Seahawks, their win is about taking this back to their fans in Seattle, the twelfth man, who was so influential in their road to victory.

———————————————————————-

Denver Broncos were simply outclassed by the Seattle Seahawks, who were on another level in both defense and offense in the game.

The Lombardi Trophy was in Seattle’s hands, finally.

“We believed we could get here. I couldn’t of done it without the guys”. “Why not us?” Russell Wilson told FOX Sports after the win. “The defense was relentless, offensively we were clicking on all cylinders. We want to be Champions every day”, the Quarter-Back added.

Seattle Seahawks prove by far the better team in the greatest night of their franchise history. A spectacular triumph on the Grand Stage. SuperBowl 48 was an absolute rout.

Stage Set: Broncos, Seahawks Ready to Battle at SuperBowl

We’re now well and truly set for SuperBowl 48 in less than a fortnight’s time. Sunday saw the Conference Championship games – one a dominant masterclass, while the other was a dramatic nail-biter.

Denver Broncos eased past New England Patriots 26 – 16, while Seattle saw-off a game San Fransisco to beat them by six points on Sunday evening.

In the first of the two conference Championship games, Peyton Manning would help his team on their way to MetLife Stadium, a win that much delighted their home fans at Mile High.

Restricted of a first-half touchdown, it was a frustrating outing for the Patriots, with Peyton Manning prevailing in the latest (and possibly final) installment of the storied Manning-Brady rivalry.

Totaled to more than 400-yards, Peyton Manning’s two touchdown passes, in combination with great usage of the clock by the hosts would see them through to SuperBowl 48.

Denver lead 23 –  3 early in the first quarter, a clear sign of their dominance throughout the game.

Fans were unable to sit too comfortably though, with Patriots edging back into it with two touchdown drives, but failure to convert would keep them at bay.

Around an hour later, attention turned to the CenturyLink Field, home of the Seattle Seahawks – and their fans who cheered so loud earlier on in the playoffs that they made it on the Richter scale.

As expected, the game was hard-hitting, atmospheric and of course very dramatic.

Seattle Seahawks were off to a terrible start on their home turf, as Quarterback Russell Wilson fumbled the ball on the first down leading to a turnover. The visitors would score a field goal after failure to convert in three downs and opened a slender 3 – 0 lead.

Anthony Dixon would put the 49ers up by ten points prior to the half, but the hosts would attain some sort of threshold, reducing it to 10 – 3.

Marshawn Lynch would emerge in his renowned ‘Beast Mode’, with a 40-yard touchdown.

Colin Kaepernick would remarkably broke away from even with a touchdown pass to Anquan Boldin, manipulating his way through players to throw off-balance, although mere inches from being intercepted.

It would ultimately be defined in a raucous with thirteen points unanswered by the 49ers. San Fransisco turned the ball over three times within the fifteen minute period, opening up the opportunity for the Seahawks to set a date with the Broncos at the SuperBowl.

A somewhat desperate touchdown pass from Colin Kaepernick in a last-ditch attempt to wrestle the game back into 49ers favor was buried, as Malcolm Smith intercepted a pass to Michael Crabtree.

With that, the stage was set. SuperBowl 48 will see the Denver Broncos collide with the Seattle Seahawks, a clash of #1 seeds from both conferences in what is sure to be another dramatic climax to a dramatic season.

Comment: Broncos Thrive, Seahawks Edge In, 49ers Fourth Quarter Costly, SuperBowl Twelfth Man

Denver Broncos were victorious with the better of two wins in the Conference Championship games. Peyton Manning has really spurred his team forwards, not only with his records but a team spirit that has helped. There’s one more game for Manning to put an extra exclamation mark on a phenomenal season. Simply put, a dominant Broncos performance.

Seattle Seahawks’ win was not in the same fashion as the Broncos, but a win is a win, and in a game like that it carries no discount. Superb game to watch and Seahawks made 49ers pay for their mistakes.

A sudden fourth-quarter turn of the events would send the 49ers SuperBowl hopes into a tailspin. Three turnovers, three, was the ultimate decider in the game. The offensive line will have a lot to regret unfortunately.

SuperBowl’s twelfth man, quite the debacle. Post-game, Peyton Manning acknowledged his fans being as big a part of the Broncos’ road to the SuperBowl, then there’s the Seattle fans – passionate, crazy, and of course loud. One thing for sure is, come SuperBowl 48, the atmosphere will epitomize like no other this season.

——————————————————————–

Denver Broncos meet Seattle Seahawks on Sunday 2 February at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Watch the action unfold in the United Kingdom on Sky Sports or BBC, while native fans in the USA can catch every play on FOX. Who will take it, Denver or Seattle?

Year in Review: Looking Back at 2013 in the NFL

BY MALDINI S.

It’s been another year in the NFL with a wide variety of story lines, and surprises. Let’s take review another great year of NFL football.

SuperBowl: The Baltimore Ravens won the SuperBowl following an incredible game.

Super Bowl Champions

This year saw defending NFL Champions, the New York Giants knocked out in the regular season as the Redskins made the playoff. From then on, new Champions were to be crowned and the Baltimore Ravens, won their second Franchise Super Bowl. A victory over Indianapolis in the Wild card round sent them to Denver, where they got a great win, and also defeated the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game, which sent them to the Superbowl to face the San Francisco 49ers, and the explosive Colin Kaepernick. It was momorable Super bowl, that included a black out at New Orlean’s Super dome, and overall a great match of football. Joe Flacco took home the Super Bowl MVP title, with a great performance. Finally, it was a historic final match for future NFL Hall of famer, Ravens legend, Ray Lewis. The line-backer was ending a great career at the NFL, and he went out on top.

Best NFL Matches

It truly was a year of great matches in the NFL. Who can forget the regular season week 14, in which the Ravens won the Vikings 29-26, after the lead changed a record 6 times after 6 TDs in the 4th quarter, and the Broncos 51-28 win over the Titans where Matt Prater made a 64 yard field goal, and many more great matches with Patriots, Lions, and Dolphins victories. Who can also forget the historic Patriots come back from 24 points down to the Broncos, to win the game 34-31. Tom Brady defeated Peyton Manning yet again, this time with Brady’s former favorite weapon Wes Welker on Manning’s side. The Seattle Seahawks also put on many great matches in the playoffs earlier in the year, and great matches at their stadium this season.

Most popular moments and stories

This category is certainly filled this year. From the disappointing New York Giants, to the statement “RG3 and out”, to Cowboys late failures, to Foles the man, the NFC east was certainly the most talked about division of the year. The Cowboy yet again faced a late “win or go home” situation, and the Philadelphia Eagles sent them home for the year. On Philly’s side, the season began with a summer starting QB competition featuring Michael Vick and Nick Foles. Vick won the battle as Kelly favored his speed for his fast paced offense, but after his injury in the season, Nick Foles took over for the Eagles, and the rest was history. He took charge the offense, and got them to the playoffs, and on the way kept the best TD-Interception ratio in NFL history.Nick Foles shined this season. Even Vick’s return meant nothing to his spotlight as Nick Foles earnt his spot as stating QB. In one game, he even tied Peyton Manning’s NFL record for 7 TDs in one game. The greatness of Shady McCoy, and Desean Jackson greatly led the Eagles to the playoffs. The Giants were disappointing, thats an understatement, and the Redskins fired coah Shanahan after a horrible season as well, especially for his QB RGIII, who last year was highly rated in the NFL. RGIII’s injury problems, and the nightmare offensive line, led to the phrase “RG3 and out.” RGIII witnessed the phrase as a reality, as he was benched. It was a rapis change of brightness to darkness in Washington.

Nick Foles shined this season. Courtesy: @SportsBattles0 on Twitter

Other NFL stories include the most improved Kansas City chiefs. With they help of former Eagles coach Andy Reid, and former 49ers QB Alex Smith, the Chiefs put on a great season with “rejects.” Their defense was solid, and who can forget their running game with Jamaal Charles? Charles bossed the season with an arguably MVP worthy season, with huge numbers. He was a treat for fantasy owners like myself and others who had him on their team. The Chiefs finished 11-5 and into the playoffs Wild Card round after a 2-14 finish last season. They truly where the most improved NFL team. The San Diego Chargers and Philip Rivers also had a great year, and he Bucs, a year to forget.
Player of the Year

To wrap it up, the best player of 2013 was Peyton Manning. His greatness, combined with the greatness of players and wide-recievers around him  led Manning to be the best player of of the year. He broke the records of both NFL greats Tom Brady’s record for the most TDs a regular season year, now set at 55, and Drew Bress’ record for yards a season, now at 5477. It will unfortunately be overlooked because of the team he’s in, but he deserved the credit, for such an amazing year.

Peyton Manning has had an incredible year. Courtesy: CBS Sports

Playoff Picture

We now head into 2014 with the NFL playoff picture. In the AFC, Peyton Manning & the Denver Broncos finished 13-3, and Tom Brady’s Patriots 12-4. They both have playoff byes on the first week. For the wild card round, the Kansas City Chiefs will face the Indianapolis Colts, and the other match up will be the San Diego Chargers taking on the Cincinnati Bengals. For the NFC, the Seattle Seahawks finished at 13-3, and the Panthers at 12-4 also get rest with the playoff bye. The New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles battle it out at the wild card stages along with the San Francisco 49ers and Green bay Packers.

NFL Playoff Picture. For UK fans, watch the playoffs on Sky Sports, Eurosport and Channel 4.

It was certainly an interesting year in the National Football League, and we await what treats 2014 holds for us!

NFL: Saints Win Big On Sunday Night

BY Neil Mehta

The Saints’ Offense Torched The Cowboys’ Defense In Their 49-17 Win.

Drew Brees Threw For Almost 400 yards and 4 Touchdowns In A 49-17 Win Over The Dallas Cowboys.
Drew Brees threw for 392 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Saints routed the Cowboys. Tony Romo didn’t fare as well as he only threw for 128 yards and 1 touchdown. The backstory in the this win is the performance of Mark Ingram. Ingram ran for 145 yards and 1 touchdowns in 14 carries. Arguably his best game since he was drafted out of Alabama in the first round of the 2011 NFL draft. Pierre Thomas also ran for 87 yards to go along with 1 touchdown. Marques Colston was the leading receiver for the Saints, catching 107 yards and 1 touchdown. Darren Sproles and Kenny Stills also sparked the offense, catching a combined 151 yards to go along with 2 touchdowns. DeMarco Murray was the leading rusher for Dallas rushing for 89 yards and 1 touchdown. Like most of the Dallas offense Dez Bryant also had a quiet night only catching 44 yards. Witten was also ineffective only racking up 27 yards.

Carolina Makes A Statement

The Carolina Panthers Proved To The NFL That They’re Legitimate Contenders With A 10-9 Win Against The San Francisco 49ers.

Ron Rivera And The Panthers Made A Statement On Sunday By Grinding It Out Against The 49ers. (via GettyImages)
In a hard-fought matchup against the San Francisco 49ers and the Carolina Panthers, the Panthers made a name for themselves. They justified their play as elite. Even though Cam Newton only threw 169 yard, 0 touchdowns and 1 interception, the Carolina defense was able to limit the 49ers to 0 touchdowns and 151 yards. Steve Smith lead Carolina with 8 catches for 63 yards. DeAngelo Williams was Carolina’s leading rusher with 46 yards and a touchdown. The 49ers did win in one category, Frank Gore lead all rushers with 82 yards in 16 carries. However,Colin Kaepernick would probably want to forget his 91 yard,1 interception performance. The Panthers are now 6-3 and are 1 game behind in the NFC South, behind the New Orleans Saints. The Panthers do however currently hold the 2nd NFC Wildcard spot. They will face the New England Patriots On MNF In Week 11. The 49ers will travel to New Orleans face a very dangerous Saints team.

NCAAF: Missouri, Oklahoma Suffer First Losses

By Neil Mehta

Missouri and Texas Are No Longer Undefeated After Suffering Defeats In Week 9.

South Carolina Kicker Elliot Fry After Kicking The Game Winning Field Goal.

The Missouri Tigers, who are ranked 5th in the AP Poll, blew a 17-0 lead going into the 4th quater. South Carolina then went on to score 17 unanswered points and win in double overtime. Missouri is still 1st in the SEC East, just above South Carolina. Missouri will play the 4-4 Tennessee Volunteers in Week 10. The Texas Tech Red Raider also suffered their first loss this weekend. The 38-30 loss comes right before a difficult stretch, as they’ll play 2 ranked teams in the following month. Texas Tech is currently ranked 10th in the AP Poll and 3rd in the Big 12, under Baylor and Texas.

NFL: Week 7 Was Filled With Injuries

By Neil Mehta

Sam Bradford, Reggie Wayne and Doug Martin Just Make Up a Fraction of the Stars Injured on Sunday.

Sam Bradford was leading the Rams to a promising season, but now the Rams are looking for a new starter. Bradford tore his ACL Sunday against Carolina, and is out for the season. Jay Cutler is just another Quarterback who is out a while. Cutler suffered a muscle tear in his groin Sunday and is expected to be out for at least 4 weeks. Cutler’s teammate linebacker Lance Briggs is also out for 4-6 weeks with an shoulder injury. The Indianapolis Colts also took a major hit. Veteran Wide Receiver Reggie Wayne tore his ACL Sunday and is out for 2013. Packers’ Tight End Jermichael Finley is also out with a scary neck injury. His playing status for the rest of the season is very unfavorable. Tampa Bay Running Back Doug Martin might be out for the season as he tore a labrum in his shoulder. The Texans who have had a very unsuccessful start have to deal with a another huge problem. Linebacker Brian Cushing is out for the season with a broke leg. With all these injuries many teams are in distress and are trying to find ways to accomplish a successful season without key players.
