NBA Playoffs 2014
Game 7, Round 1
3 – 4 May 2014

BY NISAR KHAN

Game 7, two of the best words in sports. There was a considerable helping of Game 7s in the first round in the NBA Playoffs, bringing with it an abundance in drama, thrills and the extraordinary.

This article contains all the action, information and everything else from each game featured in the 2014 NBA Playoffs Game 7, Round 1 contested between 2 May and 3 May 2014. You’ll find video highlights of key plays, key stats such as highest points and highest rebounds, times, locations and much more information.

A record of three Game 7s took place on a dramatic Saturday night while two were added on Sunday afternoon for a thrilling weekend in the NBA.

Pacers Cruise Past Hawks to Next Round

Score: Atlanta Hawks 80 – 92 Indiana Pacers
Location: Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, IN, USA.
Date: Saturday 3 May 2014
Tip-off: 5:30pm ET (10:30pm BST, UK time)
Highest points: Paul George (IND), 30 pts.
Highest rebounds: Paul Millsap (ATL), 17 rebs.
Highest assists: Shelvin Mack (ATL), 7 asts.
Final series score: Pacers 4 – 3 Hawks, Indiana progress to second round

Indiana sealed their first round adverse journey success over the Atlanta Hawks in Game 7, as all their stars turned up for big numbers to roll by the Atlanta Hawks.

Paul George lead the charge for Indiana, coming in as #1 seed, while Roy Hibbert was able to redeem himself after a poor series run, troubling the Hawks throughout.

Pivoting on two key runs, Indiana prowled of Paul George who was paramount in assembling the mass points needed to put Atlanta in the rear-view mirror.

Despite the various struggles and trepidations that Pacers were faced with throughout the series, they had quite the field day at the fieldhouse arena – Atlanta’s hard work over the series seemed to unravel.

Jeff Teague, who was significantly limited by Paul George, was blocked by Ian Mahinmi in the final play of the first half that saw Indiana go into the break with a 47-36 lead.

Pacers’ biggest margin would begin to fall into place when they outscored Atlanta 10-4 to open the third. After slugging it out further they would be on a 24-6 run.

From then on in, it became a constant and far chase for Atlanta, who never began to threat late – even with it being as close as 8 points at a time, Paul George stepped up late to hit the final, killer blows to the Hawks.

Paul George and Roy Hibbert embrace after
both play key roles in Indiana’s massive win

Many believed that their playoff series would be scattered with a doubtful shadow of disappointment having lost poorly to Atlanta in their series’ opener two weeks prior to the Game 7. After an on-and-off, turbulent series, the Pacers needed one strong win to get back on track – and they did just that, aligning themselves with the credibility of a #1 seed. Roy Hibbert performing well again allowed Indiana to exploit their size as an advantage. Jeff Teague couldn’t carry the Hawks this time round, and neither was any other player, resulting in – at times –  a lobsided contest. If Paul George can consistently keep up these big numbers then Pacers have the edge, but it will be further increased if players like Lance Stephenson step up to the mark, and Roy Hibbert fulfils his duty. For a Game 7 it was much less contested than what they had thrown at each other over the series. It’s a crucial win for Indiana.

Thunder Barge Past Grizzlies

Score: Memphis Grizzlies 109 – 120 Oklahoma City Thunder
Location: Chesapeake Energy Arena, Oklahoma City, OK, USA.
Date: Saturday 3 May 2014
Tip-off: 8:00pm ET (1:00am BST, Sun. morning UK time)
Highest points: Kevin Durant (OKC), 33 pts.
Highest rebounds: Russell Westbrook (OKC), 10 rebs.
Highest assists: Russell Westbrook (OKC), 16 asts.
Final series score: Thunder 4 – 3 Grizzlies, Oklahoma City progress to second round
Kevin Durant was, once again, reliable.

He scored 33 points as the Oklahoma City Thunder cruised past a confusing Memphis Grizzlies in Game 7.

Meanwhile, Russell Westbrook was phenomenal, with a triple-double that gave the visiting side very little chance.

The absence of Zach Randolph was made for an abundance of change, after Memphis’ power forward was suspended following an altercation in the previous game.

There were glimpses of functionality amid Memphis, though Oklahoma’s firepower was far too much to handle. These would occur though when Memphis lead by 11 points in the first quarter, only to plummet out the game in the second with incredible 66% shooting from Oklahoma City.

Mike Conley helped to catalyse Memphis to keep them away from the brink of utter domination. Despite nursing a hamstring injury, he played for over half an hour, dishing out 9 assists and scoring 20 points.

A 10-2 run to start the second half would affirm the lead eventually.

Oklahoma went on to cruise by in the fourth, throwing an alley-oop at one time to add to the euphoria building for the fans, knowing they were on the verge of securing an incredible perseverance.

After a series full of tightly packed games, drama, overtime and much more to the equation of thrilling basketball, Game 7 was a disappointment. Zach Randolph’s absence was clear for all to see as Memphis would eventually succumb to the rampant offence of the Oklahoma City Thunder. It can also be argued that Mike Conley would have been more effective, had he not been injured, put managing to put up the statistics that he did gave Memphis a greater chance. What a thrilling series, an absolute triumph for the Thunder.

Clippers Hang On to Edge Warriors in Game 7 Thriller

Score: Golden State Warriors 121 – 126 Los Angeles Clippers
Location: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA, USA.
Date: Saturday 3 May 2014
Tip-off: 10:30pm ET (3:30am BST, Sun. morning UK time)
Highest points: Steph Curry (GSW), 33 pts.
Highest rebounds: DeAndre Jordan (LAC), 18 rebs.
Highest assists: Chris Paul (LAC), 14 asts.
Final series score: Clippers 4 – 3 Warriors, Los Angeles progress to second round

There was almost one final twist to an incredible series.

But the Los Angeles Clippers stayed put and resilient, to deter the Golden State Warriors’ late surge that almost saw them take the series.

Not only where the Clippers exhausted from the actual drama of the playoff series, but the Donald Sterling scandal also took its effect, making the triumph all the more sweeter and significant.

As Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and others embraced the Warriors in a sign of mutual respect, they capped off big performances – Griffin scored 24 while Paul scored two less though dished out 14 assists.

Clippers held to their assets of Lob City when they were on course for the win, with Blake Griffin throwing down monster jams and keeping the game just out of reach from Golden State.

With Los Angeles poised to ascend to a big win, a three-pointer from Green cut the lead back down to two points with the Warriors trailing Clippers’ 120.

Free-throws hit by Chris Paul, JJ Redick and Darren Collison were enough.

In the plays prior, Grifin barged through for a layup, while DeAndre Jordan emphatically blocked Steph Curry’s attempted layup. Jordan then dunked with a rebound before Blake Griffin was incredibly acrobatic to throw up a layup in the final minute.

As the buzzer sounded at the Staples Center, that was it.

Clippers had won and more importantly got closer to closing the door on the racism scandal. Not just blocking it off, but triumphing over it.

An emotional Doc Rivers congratulated his players on the court as they made one huge step.

This basketball game epitomized the two words, “Game 7”. Truly a thriller, the Warriors almost shocked the who league on the verge of a fourth-quarter save. However, Clippers’ dunks were extraordinarily deflating to the Warriors, and a stand of resilience from Los Angeles who had their homecourt raucous. Steph Curry put up an outstanding effort but this year was simply not to be.

Nets Hold On Late, Block Sends Them to Second Round
Score: Brookyln Nets 104 – 103 Toronto Raptors
Location: Air Canada Centre, Toronto, ON, USA.
Date: Sunday 24 May 2014
Tip-off: 1:00pm ET (6:00pm BST, UK time)
Highest points: Kyle Lowry (TOR), 28 pts.
Highest rebounds: Kevin Garnett (BKN), 11 rebs.
Highest assists: DeMar DeRozan (TOR), 6 asts.
Final series score: Raptors 3 – 4 Nets, Brooklyn progress to second round
Paul Pierce’s play decided it all. But this time, it didn’t reminisce the typical days of the Boston Celtics’ legend, but it came in the form of a thunderous block to Kyle Lowry.

Just as it looked on the verge of crumbling for the Nets who, had plays in their sights, turned the ball over and put Raptors in control.

An inbound after Nets’ final timeout fell to Pierce, but he was unable to get the ball, and Terrence Ross got a hand on the ball as he neared the out of bounds area, throwing it against Pierce and going out as a Brooklyn turnover.

It was then down to Toronto. On the brink of a game winner, trailing by 104-103, it fell to Kyle Lowry, who attempted to drive to the basket but was stopped by Nets’ forward Paul Pierce.

Raptors were trailing by a larger margin though they managed to revamp with the helpof Johnson’s 13 points in the fourth.

After the block, Pierce and the Nets will face the Miami Heat, who they have performed very well against in the regular season.

A massive win for the Raptors. This was one of two game 7s that actually did go down to the wire. Just as it looked like the Raptors could have completed an overwhelming comeback, Paul Pierce’s clutch play was all that was needed to finish the Raptors.

Parker Thrives as Spurs Ease Past Mavericks

Score: Dallas Mavericks 96 – 119 San Antonio Spurs
Location: AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX, USA.
Date: Sunday 4 May 2014
Tip-off: 3:30pm ET (8:30pm BST, UK time)
Highest points: Tony Parker (SAS), 32 pts.
Highest rebounds: Dirk Nowitzki (DAL), 9 rebs.
Highest assists: Boris Diaw (SAS), Manu Ginobli (SAS), 5 asts.
Final series score: Spurs 4 – 3 Mavericks, San Antonio progress to second round
Tony Parker – and Spurs’ shooting from beyond the arc – was in his element as San Antonio routed Dallas to progress to the second round.

It was all but wrapped up in the fourth quarter, with Parker able to bow out in the game with minutes to go knowing that work was done.

Scoring 32 points, the Frenchman had himself a field day. In a game with just 1 lead change and 1 occasion with the game tied, Spurs biggest lead was by 31 points.

With a few minutes left in the second, Spurs lead by 29, with a variety of starters and reserves clicking together to pile up the buckets.

For those who don’t like blowouts, there was a comical scene when Tim Duncan dived onto the Mavs’ bench to save the ball.

Off to a quick start, it remained that way with a comfortable cushion throughout the game for the Spurs.

Dirk Nowitzki’s attempts to salvage Mavs’ season was in vein, though the German scored 22 points and crashed 9 boards.

San Antonio really looked like a Championship team out there. Three-point barrages from the Spurs around the course of the game allowed them to runaway with it. Tony Parker, meanwhile, was sublime. The Frenchman thrived not only in scoring but also acting as a sole catalyst for others like Kawhi Leonard and Tim Duncan.

NBA Playoffs 2014 Round 1, Game 6 Recap, Highlights, Stats & Analysis: Incredible Lillard Blazes Rockets On Buzzer, Five Game 7s Forced

NBA
NBA Playoffs 2014
Game 6, Round 1
24-26 April 2014

BY NISAR KHAN

An extraordinary series-winning buzzer-beater to marginal wins and a sizeable portion of thrilling basketball – Game 6 of the first round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs had it all.

This article contains all the action, information and everything else from each game featured in the 2014 NBA Playoffs Game 6, Round 1 contested between 1 May and 2 May. You’ll find video highlights of key plays, key stats such as highest points and highest rebounds, times, locations and much more information.

There were six playoff games contested in this phase. There was a series-winning buzzer, a couple of marginal wins and even some player altercations.

Pacers Force Decider After Inspired Redemption Over Atlanta

Score: Indiana Pacers 95 – 88 Atlanta Hawks
Location: Phillips Arena, Atlanta, GA, USA.
Date: Thursday 1 May 2014
Tip-off: 7:00pm ET (12:00am BST Fri. morning UK)
Highest points: Jeff Teague (ATL), 29 pts.
Highest rebounds: Paul Millsap (ATL), 18 rebs.
Highest assists: David West (IND), 6 asts.
Current series score: Pacers 3 – 3 Hawks

Indiana Pacers were near to their best again, and it showed, with a convincing win at the Philips Arena to set up a Game 7 decider.

Had the Pacers lost the game, they would have disappointingly crashed out of the NBA Playoffs following a lacklustre start, especially considering the fact that they were the #1 seed. It was, though, another torrid game for Roy Hibbert who did start but had minimal to offer.

As the scoreline continued to fluctuate in the final phase, Atlanta looked to be on course for a monumental win, as Jeff Teague nailed a jumpshot in the final three minutes. However, David West’s 24-point barrage included late blocks and shots from the foul-line to turn it back around.

Paul Millsap – crashing 18 rebounds – would miss after another Hawks’ turnover where Pero Antic was swatted away by David West. West then went on to score the open up a one-point lead.

For the eighth and final occurrence in the meeting, Pero Antic tied it at 85-all with 1:24 left. Pacers would run ahead for the final margin in the 10th lead change.

Another jumpshot perfected by David West, then George’s capitalization on a woeful turnover to score from the free-throw line and add to his final 24 point total.

Jeff Teague, scoring 29 points, came close to winning but he missed what would have been the game winner.

Even though they shot 36%, Atlanta pushed the Pacers and will have a good shout in Game 7.

Back and forth they go. Pacers win is massive here and now with the rallying homecourt behind them, they can really turn up by a gear to win the decider. Roy Hibbert is in a slump as of late and its important that the Pacers recognized this to cut down his minutes. Maybe he shouldn’t start Game 7 though, so he could have a bigger presence coming off the bench. As for the Hawks, if Jeff Teague continues his great form, the Hawks are going to push. Both teams have made true intents and cases for progression meaning that it really is up in the air in Game 7.

Reliable Durant Motivated in Thunder’s Rout at Memphis to go to Game 7

Score: Oklahoma City Thunder 104 – 84 Memphis Grizzlies

Location: FedEx Forum, Memphis, TN, USA.
Date: Thursday 1 May 214
Tip-off: 8:00pm ET (1:00am BST, Fri. morning UK)
Highest points: Kevin Durant (OKC), 36 pts.
Highest rebounds: Kevin Durant (OKC), 10 rebs.
Highest assists: Mike Conley (OKC), 6 asts.
Current series score: Thunder 3 – 3 Grizzlies
After a newspaper back in his hometown labelled Kevin Durant as “Mr. Unreliable”, the NBA scoring Champion responded in a big way after Thunder took off to force Game 7.

After close games prior, which saw 4 back-to-back overtime finishes, this was anything but.

Kevin Durant scored 36 points which included a dazzling 14 in the opening quarter, ultimately definitive in Thunder’s 15 point lead by halftime. Meanwhile, Russell Westbrook’s impressive run also continued, scoring 24 points.

Memphis could though have their backs against the wall come Game 7, after Mike Conley prematurely left the game with a hamstring strain. His brief return was a sign of his agony and he left with under 9 minutes remaining. Even by then, the game was in the Thunder’s hands and they showed no signs of letting it slip. Grizzlies are now thin on point-guard supplies.

Memphis last lead way back at the 6-4 scoreline, showing how out of the game they were by the final buzzer. They were off course in their shooting statistics too, going 31-83, with a percentage of 37.3%.

A huge win for the Thunder. The criticism in the media towards Thunder forward Kevin Durant was what he needed for one hell of a revamp that saw him torch the Grizzlies. Back on their homecourt, with Mike Conley doubtful, they could easily storm by. However, you must take into account the grit, determination and physicality from the Grizzlies players. While it may not have been on display in Game 6, when the stakes are high it will definitely arouse once again.

Warriors One-Point Win Sets Up For Game 7
Score: Los Angeles Clippers 99 – 100 Golden State Warriors

Location: Oracle Arena, Oakland, CA, USA.
Date: Thursday 1 May 2014
Tip-off: 10:30pm ET (3:30am BST, Fri. morning UK)
Highest points: Steph Curry (GSW), 24 pts.
Highest rebounds: DeAndre Jordan (LAC), 19 rebs.
Highest assists: Steph Curry (GSW), 9 asts.
Current series score: Clippers 3 – 3 Warriors
In the hostile mix of drama and controversy, a sense of triumph has emerged from an intriguing series between the Warriors and Clippers – in Game 6, it was the Warriors’ turn.

Steph Curry lead the charge for the Warriors, who bounced back from a loss at the Staples Center in the previous game, scoring 24 points and providing 9 assists for the likes of Andre Iguadola who scored 15 points and Draymond Green who had 14.

Problems didn’t just emerge for the Clippers from their two big men, they also went for 36.8% shooting – meanwhile, the big men DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin were significantly cut down, unable to perform dominantly like they have previously in the series.

It’s going to be an exciting Game 7. Not just for the fans, but for many Warriors players, who have never experienced the thrills of a game of such magnitude.

Fouls were happening around the clock. 52 in total, which would see Griffin, Reddick and Lee fouling out in the fourth quarter – the fourth quarter of which would go down to the very wire.

Leading 96-89 after Iguadola’s corner three-pointer, Warriors were poised and ready to celebrate. But, instantly, Clippers would get a shout back in the game, with back-to-back buckets to wrap up a quick five points.

Hesitation was apparent from the Clippers in a nail-biting final play, missing three consecutive shots though managing to rebound, finally to Matt Barnes who hit the hardest out of the four shots, and in fact got it, cutting the lead down to 100-99.

But all the time had pretty much gone. 1.1 seconds were left after the cruel Clipper chronicles from the three point line. Steph Curry was fouled and aimed his second shot at the rim, back into Warriors possession for time to expire.

Out of the ten games they have played this season in the regular season in the playoffs, the wins are split equally, five a piece. That will be broken in Game 7, in an exchange to progress to Round 2. The most key play of the game was the penultimate one were Clippers missed three straight shots. What’s worrying for the Clippers is that they missed the looks. But what’s even more worrying for the Warriors is that they conceded 3 straight offensive rebounds. Warriors spirit was feeding off the raucous Oracle Arena, but in the Staples Center they face a tough task. Chris Paul, picking up an injury, obviously limited him, and that made it easier for Warriors to target and lock down Jordan and Griffin.

Nets Dominate Raptors to Push Game 7
Score: Toronto Raptors 83 – 97 Brooklyn Nets

Location: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, NY, USA.
Date: Friday 2 May 2014
Tip-off: 7:00pm ET (12:00am BST, Sat. morning UK)
Highest points: DeMar DeRozan (TOR), 28 pts.
Highest rebounds: Jonas Valenciunas (TOR), Alan Anderson (BKN), 9 rebs.
Highest assists: Kyle Lowry (TOR), DeMar DeRozan (TOR), DeRon Williams (BKN), 4 asts.
Current series score: Raptors 3 – 3 Nets
Standing tall with their fans at the Barclays Center, the Nets were euphoric, knowing they were one win away from a playoff tie with Miami.

It was a subdued performance by the visiting Raptors, with DeMar DeRozan the only significant performer, scoring a game-high 28 points. But, Kyle Lowry had much less of an impact in Game 6 than he did in Game 5, making the Nets’ outing all the more easier.

Deron Williams, who scored 23 points, persevered through an ankle injury when he drove towards the rim. He managed to pull through and help his side ease past the Raptors.

There were no lead changes in the game, and it was only tied on one occasion – simply put, Nets were always in control.

Raptors preserved some dignity and kept an edge over the Nets, as an 11-0 run to open up the fourth quarter cut down the 22-point deficit. Eventually though, they would succumb to the Nets onslaught and lose by 14 points.

Emphatic domination from the Brooklyn Nets. Even with the Raptors managing to assemble a double-digit run, they kept on with their consistent play to draw the game out. DeMar DeRozan has been the best player for the Raptors but, even with his game-high scoring, he cannot hold up the game by himself. Kyle Lowry dipped a lot considering the fact that he scored 36 in the previous game. All of the Raptors will need to be fully on their game to push a progression. As for the Nets, if Deron Williams is okay, they should be okay… pending the veterans step up.

Ellis Leads Mavs Past Spurs
Score: San Antonio Spurs 111 – 113 Dallas Mavericks

Location: American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX, USA.
Date: Friday 2 May 2014
Tip-off: 8:00pm ET (1:00am BST, Sat. morning UK)
Highest points: Monta Ellis (DAL), 29 pts.
Highest rebounds: DeJuan Blair (DAL), 14 rebs.
Highest assists: Tony Parker (SAS), Jose Calderon (DAL), 6 asts.
Current series score: Spurs 3 – 3 Mavericks

Monta Ellis and his Maverick teammates fulfilled what some thought was a mere fantasy – as Dallas narrowly beat the Spurs to force a Game 7.

An inspired fourth-quarter comeback was lead by Ellis, scoring 12 points in that phase as part of his 29-point game.

Meanwhile, Dirk Nowitzki, looking to to make a marquee milestone to add to his career, matched for 22 points with Tony Parker, with a key two points coming from a vintage fadeaway over Tim Duncan.

DeJua Blair was in his element, after missing Game 5 where he was suspended for a kick to Tiago Splitter when both fell to the ground in Game 4. He finished with a total of 10 points and got 14 rebounds the most in the game.

A hotly contested fourth quarter would contribute to the total of 12 lead changes in the game.  After trailing by five, a 14-2 run would give them an eight point lead. But, the game was close going down to the wire with Parker bouncing back in a couple of drives up against Monta Ellis.

Parker hooked a shot over Nowitzki to put the lead to within one, 106-105. Danny Green and Patty Mills nailed shots from beyond the arc to cut down Mavericks’ six point lead, but a late score from the Mavs left the Spurs with no time left.

Another close game between these two teams. Mavericks were trailing for a big part of the game, but Monta Ellis’ performance showed how he can step up and make the difference. Nowitzki was the key figure for Dallas, and he could replicate some of the best of his career play in Game 7. Tony Parker meanwhile continues to drive through and open up. Roll on Game 7.

Extraordinary Lillard Blazes Rockets With Unbelievable Buzzer Beater
Score: Houston Rockets 98 – 99 Portland Trail Blazers

Highest rebounds: LaMarcus Aldridge (POR), 13 rebs.
Highest assists: Nicolas Batum (POR), 7 asts.
Current series score: Rockets 2 – 4 Blazers, Portland progress to next round
The buzzer sounded. The ball floated. Then, the fans stood up and celebrated as it went in.

Damian Lillard had just shot a series-winning three pointer. It was the first buzzer beater since 1997 to clinch a playoff series.

Acknowledging the triumph in the raucous Moda Center, he shouted “Rip City!” as Portland won their first playoff series in over a decade.

The play earlier saw Chandler Parsons tip the ball in with 0.9 seconds remaining, and many had thought Rockets had the win.

Then, on the inbound, Lillard broke away for a remarkable three pointer.

James Harden’s 34 points was not enough to force Game 7, when Rockets were on the verge of winning after Dwight Howard’s free throws and Parson’s tip.

Rockets began to break away in the first quarter though with a game containing 16 lead changes.

But Blazers would fight back and Rockets would try to run away, though Portland were hot on their heels throughout.

Truly remarkable! What a shot. Its another episode in an incredible start to this year’s NBA Playoffs. Parsons, thinking he had won it, was unable to keep on Lillard who managed to create a look, and the rest is history… Portland are looking great, a young team with Aldridge, Lillard and others to take them further.

Job, done. – Lillard USA TODAY SPORTS

There will be five Game 7s. What a playoff series this has been so far.

Portland’s Lillard takes the spotlight this time round. Simply amazing.

Pacers were once again left to question themselves at the hand of the Atlanta Hawks, who, are just a win away from knocking out the #1 seed after raining three-pointers over the Pacers at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indiana.

A mesmerizing run in the second quarter, where Mike Scott’s three-point onslaught saw him score 17 points in the period, would put the game in Indiana’s favor, proving enough to hold on against Pacers’ late surge.

Over the quarter, Atlanta made 13-16 field goals, while successfully shooting 9 three pointers out of 11 attempts. Mike Scott put his team within three as the first quarter drew to a close – with Pacers leading 21 – 18. However, a dramatic change would be witnessed over the second quarter, in total a 30-6 run that saw Hawks up 48-27, before finishing the half with a 61 – 40 lead. Before Pacers assembled a comeback, they would be down by as much as 30 points in the meeting.

It was literally torrential rain from beyond the arc – Atlanta made 15 three pointers in the game, 3 higher than the previous record for most 3s in a postseason fixture.

Out of nowhere, all of a sudden, Mike Scott had decimated the Pacers and plummeted them into doubt by halftime – some of his best shooting of his career was more than enough to outdo the Pacers.

While Paul George scored 26 points with 12 rebounds and his teammates – David West, Lance Stephenson and George Hill – all scored 16 points. However for Roy Hibbert, it was more than disappointing as he failed to score a point or register a single rebound for the first time in his playoff career.

While the second quarter runaway may have suggested otherwise, Pacers went down swinging, to an extent. Late in the third quarter, Pacers suddenly had life again, with the deficit cut down to 18-points. But from there, they’d take it further to within 9 points, as there was 4:04 left on the clock.

Kyle Korver’s three though acted as the proverbial ‘dagger’, taking the game further way when Pacers belief crumbled.

They would go onto win by double digits.

Despite a showing of great character and will, Pacers losing on their homecourt asks questions of their chemistry and credibility. Three-points were absolutely incredibly shot from the Atlanta Hawks – and it was too late for Pacers to respond to Mike Scott’s performance before the game was flipped around. However, positives can be taken – reducing the deficit from 30 points, to end up losing by 10 points reserved dignity. What happened to Roy Hibbert? A silent game, literally, from one of Pacers’ keys. Yes, with George, Stephenson and others scoring significantly, it may have been the formula for a winning performance – though Hawks were always a step ahead.

News update: During Indiana’s loss, Paul George’s house was reportedly burgled and his All-Star ring was stolen. A total of more than $15,000 was taken from the home but there were no signs of forced entry.

Bulls Crash Out Playoffs Against Wizards

Score: Washington Wizards 75 – 69 Chicago Bulls
Location: United Center, Chicago, IL, USA.
Date: Tuesday 29 April 2014
Tip-off: 8:00pm ET (1:00am BST, Weds. morning UK time)
Highest points: John Wall (WAS), 24 pts.
Highest rebounds: Joakim Noah (CHI), 18 rebs.
Highest assists: Joakim Noah (CHI), 7 asts.
Current series score: Bulls 1 – 4 Wizards, Washington Wizards progress to Round 2
Dismay, disappointment and detrimental to morale, Chicago Bulls season came to an end at the hands of the Washington Wizards.

In five games out of a possible seven, Washington clinched their spot in Round 2, where they’ll face the winner of the Indiana Pacers vs. Atlanta Hawks series.

After his suspension that saw him ruled out of Game 4, Nene was back and scored 20 points, though it would be NBA Dunk Contest winner John Wall that would do the bulk of the scoring, with 24 points onto his total.

For just the third time in over 4 decades, the Wizards progressed in the playoffs – while bringing a cloud of disappointment upon Chicago.

However, Chicago put up one last stand to resist a disappointing knockout – alas, in vein.

Taj Gibson picked up an injury when attempting to sabotage John Wall’s layup in the fourth, clutching his ankle in agony as his game closed with 12 points registered.

His teammates, Butler and Hinrich, scored 16 for Chicago, who were tied during halftime.

Wizards would extend a nine-point lead in the fourth quarter, though with over two minutes remaining, Chicago got within 3 points, 72-69 after a pair of free throws from D.J. Augustin. Those would be the last points scored of the Bulls’ season.

Nene rebounded dominantly in the paint and tracked down loose balls to produce free-throws and chances for his side, as Wizards’ scored three more from the free-throw line to guarantee the final margin.

When Derrick Rose returned at the American Airlines Arena for the opening game of the season back in October, things looked optimistic for the Bulls – now, after a torrid postseason, its the opposite, and there are calls ringing for change. Joakim Noah has been individually excellent, and his Defensive Player of the Year Award is a true credit to his attributes, but he can’t do everything – and that’s the problem. Bulls have not been able to rely on a consistent scorer down the stretch, no balance and sometimes there’s a lack of motivation. Wizards didn’t turnover at all – they relished in their minimal playoff experience. They’ll have quite a good chance in Round 2.

Grizzlies Edge Thunder 100-99 In Fourth Overtime Thriller

Score: Memphis Grizzlies 100 – 99 Oklahoma City Thunder
Location: Chesapeake Energy Arena, Oklahoma City, OK
Date: Tuesday 29 April 2014
Tip-off: 9:00pm ET (2:00am BST, Weds. morning UK time)
Highest points: Russell Westbrook (OKC), 30 pts.
Highest rebounds: Marc Gasol (MEM), 15 rebs.
Highest assists: Russell Westbrook (OKC), 13 asts.
Current series score: Thunder 2 – 3 Grizzlies
For the fourth straight time in an epic series, 48 minutes would not see the end of Thunder and Grizzlies’ battle.

Russell Westbrook was outstanding as he dished out 13 assists and added 30 to Oklahoma’s points total, as part of a tripe-double for Oklahoma City’s point-guard who also finished with 10 rebounds.

Winning by just one point, the history-making game had drama in the final few seconds of overtime.

Durant got Oklahoma within 100-99, scoring one of his two free-throws but, his rhythm was significantly halted by referee Joey Crawford, snatching the ball from Durant and ordering scoreboard operators to make a change.

Serge Ibaka tipped the ball in after rebounding Kevin Durant’s three pointer just as the buzzer went. Fans at the Chesapeake Arena were euphoric, before the shot was reviewed.

Referee’s concluded that Ibaka released the shot after the buzzer had went, meaning Memphis won by just one point.

Zach Randolph lead the charge for the roaring Grizzlies with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Former Miami Heat star Mike Miller scored 21 and Mike Conley had 17.

Despite another struggle out in scoring (10-24, 26 pts), Durant’s early fourth-quarter three point shot gave Thunder a 79-78 lead after trailing by 20 points in the phase prior.

Ultimately, his mistakes would deny Oklahoma of the win. Thunder could have taken the lead with a minute left though he was stripped off the ball, and Marc Gasol went on to score one of two-free throws to take the game to overtime. He also missed a three-pointer that would have won in overtime.

Grizzlies picked up the big win to tie the series in another noteworthy playoff encounter. Judging by how well these two teams have matched, we could be in for a tough Game 7 decider.

Overtime, overtime, overtime. Maybe they should specially change the minutes of this game to 53. They are so well matched, especially in the fourth quarter, that neither can win by a huge margin. Kevin Durant will hope for better shooting days in order to really open up the margin, but the Thunder showed great courage and resilience from coming back after being down by 20.

Resounding Clippers “Are One” In Massive Victory At Staples Center
Score: Golden State Warriors 103 – 113 Los Angeles Clippers
Location: Staples Center, Los Angeles, USA.
Date: Tuesday April 29 2014
Tip-off: 10:30pm ET (3:30am BST, Weds. morning UK time)
Highest points: DeAndre Jordan (LAC), 25 pts.
Highest rebounds: DeAndre Jordan (LAC), 18 rebs.
Highest assists: Andre Iguadola (GSW), 8 asts.
Current series score: Clippers 3 – 2 Warriors
Fever pitch at the Staples Center meant one thing – the Clippers turned up to win. After emotions ran high with the Donald Sterling scandal, Clippers put themselves one win away from progression to the next round.

News update: On the day of the game, Los Angeles Clippers’ owner, Donald Sterling, was “banned for life” from the NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, who also issued a $2.5 million fine, which is the maximum in the NBA constitution, and the ban means he cannot attend any Clippers’ affiliated events or board meetings. This comes after TMZ released a shocking audio tape of the Clippers owner expressing highly offensive racial remarks. Clippers did respond in Game 4, and other teams followed, by wearing their warmup jerseys inside out and ditching their white t-shirts.

Doc Rivers, who cancelled training when the scandal was taking effect, was emotionally-high as he praised his team, “I’m just proud of them”, he said.

Emotions ran high both on and off the court. DeAndre Jordan had a monster game with 25 points and 18 rebounds as part of a phenomenal double that included 4 blocks. Meanwhile, Chris Paul showed true leadership while racking up 20 points.

The Staples Center was raucous as the Clippers made their way on to the court to a standing ovation. Support was high. It was a true message of how sport can stand against racism – just like in the weekend prior, where Brazilian footballer Dani Alves ate a banana after it was thrown at him from the crowd, and many others followed in the #WeAreAllMonkeys campaign on social media.

Jamal Crawford scored 19 points describing the game as “monumental”. The performance was a true credit to his performances off the bench, voted “Sixth Man of the Year” in the NBA awards.

It was a close encounter going into the final phase. Curry, while not having the best of games, managed to put Warriors ahead, though Chris Paul’s three-pointer put Clippers back up 72-70.

A fourth-quarter shine from the Clippers would be enough to see them through, as Griffin scored six points in the first 5 minutes and Jordan went 6-8 from the free-throw line. With 7 minutes to go, Clippers were up by 9 and followed that suit to continue and win by double figures.

Its a monumental win for the Clippers who have ignited a huge fire in their fight to win the Championship. Warriors won’t go away easily, but if Clippers manage to stop the three-point onslaught and beat them late, they’ll have a big chance. A hugely significant moment as thousands gave them a standing ovation in a stand against racism. This was more than basketball – this was sport beating racism. As for Game 6, Clippers will hope to carry the ignition that little bit further.

Spurs On Brink Of Series Win, Shut Out Mavericks

Score: Dallas Mavericks 103 – 109 San Antonio Spurs
Location: AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX, USA.
Date: Wednesday 30 April 2014
Tip-off: 7:00pm ET (12:00am BST, Thurs. morning UK time)
Highest points: Vince Carter (DAL), 28 pts.
Highest rebounds: Dirk Nowitzki (DAL), 15 rebs.
Highest assists: Monta Ellis (DAL), Boris Diaw (SAS), 6 asts.
Current series score: Spurs 3 – 2 Mavericks
The latest installment to the battle of the Texas Veterans between the Mavericks and Spurs went one way, Tony Parker’s way.

The Frenchman scored 23 points and handed out 5 assists, merely hours after his fiancee gave birth to his first son.

Vince Carter, who sunk a buzzer-beater to win a previous game, scored 28 points from 10-16 from the field. He hit another three-pointer in the game to put the Mavs within 4 of Spurs’ 98, but Parker’s only successful shot from beyond the arc put his side up 101-94.

Ginobli (16 pts), Splitter (17 pts), Duncan (16 pts, 12 rebs.) and Leonard (15 pts.) all had solid games in contribution to the Spurs’ win, who’s largest lead in the game was a first-quarter thirteen point lead.

Nowitzki missed a “big shot”, in his words, that would’ve put Dallas nearer in the game with 3 minutes left, but he missed it and the towering German’s disappointment was evident in the post-game interview.

And so, the Spurs went on, and won by 6 points.

Tony Parker played exceptional, especially when considering his lack of sleep prior to the game with the birth of his son. After a key game and performance, he’ll want to shut them out in Dallas – but Nowitzki’s better shooting performance with 26 is just one sign that it will be a very tough fight. Another great game, Texas stands up.

Raptors Rescue Big Lead to Stun Nets
Score: Brooklyn Nets 113 – 115 Toronto Raptors
Location: Air Canada Centre, Toronto, ON, USA.
Date: Wednesday 30 April 2014
Tip-off: 7:30pm ET (12:30am BST, Thurs. morning UK time)
Highest points: Kyle Lowry (TOR), 36 pts.
Highest rebounds: Patrick Patterson (TOR), 8 asts.
Highest assists: Deron Williams (BKN), 9 asts.
Current series score: Raptors 3 – 2 Nets

Kyle Lowry posted a massive game that was vital in Raptors’ topsy-turvy win over the Brooklyn Nets.

Although blowing a 26-point lead, Raptors hung on to win by just two points.

Kyle Lowry scored 36 points which is the highest he’s ever scored in the playoffs. His biggest points were a three pointer after Raptors had let slip of a 26-point advantage, putting Nets off balance.

An inspired comeback fell short – even though they managed to post a whopping total of 44 points in the final phase, one mistake, a turnover, would spell a tough defeat.

Lowry, pressurizing Andrey Blatche, forced him to pass to Deron Williams, though it was far from Williams, going over into the backcourt and turning over in possession.

The final buzzer came as a sigh of relief for Raptors, who made “Every mistake you could think about” – according to Raptors coach Dwane Casey – and almost fatally lost to the Nets.

Earlier in the fourth Toronto lead 94 – 72, but a charge from Brooklyn on a 15-3 run set the record straight for them before moving towards 97-87. Soon, Johnson’s three-point play tied the game at 101, with just 3:16 left on the clock.

It would be later tied at 107 wit over a minute left, but key lays from DeRozan from the foul line along with Anderson’s fee-throws. They would go onto win, but only just.

Don’t rule out Game 7.

Another close game, at least in the late stages. Raptors will be more than relieved to have won the game, considering the fact that losing after leading by 26 would have made them subject to a lot of disappointment and criticism. Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan are really stepping it up for the Raptors now more than ever, but they may not be enough to stop Pierce, Garnett and the other Nets in Game 6.

Rockets Redeem After Lin & Howard Surge

Score: Portland Trail Blazers 98 – 108 Houston Rockets
Location: Toyota Center, Houston, TX, USA.
Date: Wednesday 30 April 2014
Tip-off: 9:30pm ET (2:30am BST, Thurs. morning UK time)
Highest points: Wesley Matthews (POR), 27 pts.
Highest rebounds: Omar Asik (HOU), 15 rebs,
Highest assists: Damian Lillard (POR), James Harden (HOU), 7 asts.
Current series score: Rockets 2 – 3 Blazers

Houston kept Portland at bay in Game 5 at the Toyota Center, winning by double-digits after Jeremy Lin and Dwight Howard dominated.

“Linsanity” made an appearance in the game, after anything but in Game 4, scoring 21 points after coming off the subs.

Meanwhile his towering teammate, Dwight Howard, posted an emphatic double-double that would prove key to the Rockets, with 22 points and 14 boards.

James Harden’s step back three pointer made it 103-98 in response to Damian Lillard’s basket. In the series, Lillard has scored 125 points and dished out 35 assists, meaning he has been responsible for more than 200 points thus far in the series.

Harden’s stepback three was followed by an 8-0 run that took the game away from Portland’s fingertips.

LaMarcus Aldridge was slowed down and limited to eight points, halting his rampant form that saw him overage 35+ points in the four previous playoff games.

Its a big win for Houston, but they need to be consistent now to force Game 7. The Rockets did really well to close out a wild Portland team, and LaMarcus Aldridge’s isolation like today is absolutely paramount of Rockets want to continue and win the next two that will see them through.

NBA
NBA Playoffs 2014
Game 4, Round 1

You’ll find video highlights of key plays, key stats such as highest points and highest rebounds, times, locations and much more information.

Alleged racial comments from Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling dominated the headlines around the league, with protests taking place in games and many players vocal.

Pacers Regroup To Tie Series Against Hawks

Score: Indiana Pacers 91 – 88 Atlanta Hawks
Location: Phillips Arena, Atlanta, GA, USA.
Date: Saturday 26 April 2014
Tip-off: 2:00pm ET (7:00pm BST, UK)
Highest points: Paul Millsap (ATL), 29 pts.
Highest rebounds: Paul George (IND), 10 rebs.
Highest assists: Jeff Teague (ATL), 7 asts.
Current series score: Pacers 2 – 2 Hawks

Paul George was back on form, so was David West, as the Indiana Pacers bounced back in Atlanta to tie the series 2 – 2.

George Hill would score the game-defining points, getting a quick bucket down the drive with less than a minute remaining.

Though David West and Paul George would be the ones making the key contributions. As the final minutes ticked down, both nailed three-pointers to halt the Hawks at the Phillips Arena.

After George’s rebound was dished to Hill to get the final points, Hawks squandered three possessions to put the game in their favor, and spectators saw a buzzer-beating attempt, where this time the buzzer won, as Antic missed a three-pointer that would have sent the game to overtime.

Paul George, who questioned the Pacers ‘toughness’ after their loss in Game 3, improved from a poor game to add 24 points and crash 10 rebounds.

On the other hand, the other Paul would also put on an outstanding performance – although it fell short. After scoring 29 points he gave away the ball with half a minute left on the clock, and missed a shot soon after. He was however successful in his attempt of fearing the Pacers. Getting into foul trouble in the third quarter after two fouls within seven seconds, he was forced onto the bench for the majority of the third phase, allowing West and George to give the Pacers a firm grasp of the outcome.

Hibbert’s woes somewhat continued the game as he scored 6 points and had 3 rebounds in 25 minutes of game time. Getting his first two blocks of the series may act as encouragement, though.

It was nip-and-tuck going down the stretch in the final quarter. Tensions ran high with Atlanta’s Scott and Indiana’s Hill being given technical fouls after a small altercation, though nothing would be too controversial to cause a gaping absence.

Thunder Tie Series After Third Straight OT Finish With Grizzlies

Score: Oklahoma City Thunder 92 – 89 Memphis Grizzlies
Location: FedEx Forum, Memphis, TN, USA.
Date: Saturday 26 April 2014
Tip-off: 9:30pm ET (2:30am BST, Sun. morning UK)
Highest points: Reggie Jackson (OKC), 32 pts.
Highest rebounds: Serge Ibaka (OKC), 14 rebs.
Highest assists: Mike Conley (MEM), 10 asts.
Current series score: Thunder 2 – 2 Grizzlies

For the third straight game, 48 minutes was not enough to separate Oklahoma and Memphis. And for the second time in the series, Thunder would be the victors.

Reggie Jackson provided the much needed push for the Oklahoma City scoring a game-high and personal best in the playoffs total of 32 points.

After Thunder were looking to run away after putting together a 14-point lead, the fourth quarter would see things change. Memphis lost a lead to Oklahoma City Thunder again, in the final phase which saw seven lead changes.

Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook were much quieter this time round with a combined 15 points between the tandem going for 11-45. Luckily for them though, Jackson’s surge would put the Thunder back in the series.

The FedEx Arena attendants were on the edge of their seats as the game went to overtime, for third time between the two Western Conference sides.

Mike Conley gave Grizzlies a slender 87-86 lead in overtime, before Kevin Durant’s free-throws and Jackson from the foul line were enough to tame the Grizzlies. Mike Conley missed his buzzer-beater which would have sent the game into a second overtime period.

Three straight overtime finishes? Unreal! These are the best two matched teams in the Western Conference and they are proving it. Reggie Jackson’s involvement to rack up the key points is what makes the difference – how many sources of these vital points can each team find? Kevin Durant really needs to keep consistent, because the Thunder are lucky for both Durant and Westbrook to have a poor game but go onto win.

Wizards Take 3-1 Series Lead Over Bulls To Increase Chicago Woes

Score: Chicago Bulls 89 – 98 Washington Wizards
Location: Verizon Center, Washington, DC, USA.
Date: Sunday 27 April 2014
Tip-off: 1:00pm ET (6:00pm BST UK)
Highest points: Taj Gibson (CHI), 32 pts.
Highest rebounds: Joakim Noah (CHI), 15 rebs.
Highest assists: John Wall (WAS), 10 asts.
Current series score: Bulls 1 – 3 Wizards

After Nene’s suspension, many thought Wizards would suffer – and many, were proved wrong.

Trevor Ariza was key with contributions to the Wizards assembling another big lead that would cause Chicago to tire in the chase to revive their chances in the game.

Going 13-16 from the field, Taj Gibson’s 32 point game-high performance was subdued by poor shooting with combined FG of 22-62 from his Bulls’ teammates.

After inspiring his side to the win in Game 3, Mike Dunleavy scored only 6 points in the game – and injured his thumb in the fourth quarter.

Chicago plummeted into the hole early on, and never got back, with Wizards leading by 14 for a big spell of the game.

Washington are thriving. Bulls got the win away in Game 3, though are one loss from losing in the series. Even without Nene, the Wizards put on a show and cause a bank of problems for the Bulls. If Dunleavy couldn’t step up, Bulls needed someone who did, and like Game 1 and Game 2, this game was no different – because they didn’t find it. Trevor Ariza broke through this time round with a solid win. There’ll be a lot of pressure when Bulls look to keep their season alive back at home in Chicago.

Nothing But Net For Curry As Warriors Tie Series

Score: Los Angeles Clippers 97 – 118 Golden State Warriors
Location: Oracle Arena, Oakland, CA, USA.
Date: Sunday 27 April 2014
Tip-off: 3:30pm ET (8:30pm BST UK)
Highest points: Steph Curry (GSW), 33 pts.
Highest rebounds: Steph Curry (GSW), 7 rebs.
Highest assists: Andre Iguadola (GSW), 9 asts.
Current series score: Clippers 2 – 2 Warriors

Steph Curry was incredible from three-point range as his 33 points saw the Warriors cleanly past the Clippers to tie the series of their first round Western Conference matchup.

After highly offensive racial remarks caught on tape from Clippers’ owner Donald Sterling, the game was overshadowed by the headline. As part of Clippers’ silent protest they got rid of their warm-up jerseys and wearing the red shirts inside out during the pregame routine. Undoubtedly his remarks have caused an uproar in the sporting World.

Warriors’ lead in the game was assembled very early on, with Steph Curry’s first five free-throw attempts being perfect where he would go onto add two more to that total, establishing a career-high for the postseason.

After a huge run which had the Oracle Arena raucous, Warriors went into the first quarter with 39 points, the highest points for the first quarter in their season. Andre Iguadola, who made key steals on some of the 19 turnovers from Clippers, was dunking left right and centre as Warriors were euphoric.

Clippers would trail from then on in, and in the second half they never closed the lead down to single digits.

The series is tied up at 2 – 2 with Game 5 being at the Staples Center. Some dramatic events could unfold as the aftermath of the owner’s disgraceful remarks continue.

This game wasn’t really about the basketball – it was about doing something to combat racism in the sport, with Donald Sterling’s outrageous remarks being a shocker. At the Staples Center there is going to be a lot of hostility. As for the basketball though, Steph Curry’s shooting was incredible, and although getting fouled out Klay Thompson and his partnership could be the asset that takes the Warriors much further.

Raptors Bail Brooklyn, Series Tied After Game 4

Score: Toronto Raptors 87 – 79 Brooklyn Nets
Location: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, NY, USA.
Date: Sunday 27 April 2014
Tip-off: 7:00pm ET (12:00am BST, Mon. morning UK)
Highest points: DeMar DeRozan (TOR), 24 pts.
Highest rebounds: Patrick Patterson (TOR), 9 rebs.
Highest assists: Greivis Vasquez (TOR), 9 asts.
Current series score: Raptors 2 – 2 Nets

Toronto Raptors’ young guns in DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry outdid the veterans of the Brooklyn Nets to tie the series in a dramatic meeting at the Barclays Center.

Scoring 24 points, Toronto’s DeRozan acknowledged his team’s resilience and willingness to never give up, correlating to their fourth quarter resistance against a late Brooklyn rally.

Rise, fall, then rise – that is the simple pattern of how the Raptors got the win. Leading by 17 points, they gave up the lead in the second half, only to push the Nets back off the pedestal, and ultimately, to tie the series.

Paul Pierce racked up 22 points, although Nets’ 3-17 in the final phase was key in their lack of points resulting in a less bigger threat to the Raptors.

In the game prior, Nets’ Deron Williams and Joe Johnson were running riot through Toronto – though this was not the same affair. However they were shut down and the veterans were not heavily available to finish the clutch shots. DeMar DeRozan is breaking out as key in the playoffs.

Blazers Triumph In Overtime To Lead 3 – 1 Over Rockets

Score: Houston Rockets 120 – 123 Portland Trail Blazers
Location: Moda Center, Portland, OR, USA.
Date: Sunday 27 April 2014
Tip-off: 9:30pm ET (2:30am BST, Mon. morning UK)
Highest points: LaMarcus Aldridge (POR), 29 pts.
Highest rebounds: Dwight Howard (HOU), 14 rebs.
Highest assists: Damian Lillard (POR), 8 asts.
Current series score: Rockets 1 – 3 Blazers

For the third time in the series, the end of the fourth quarter would not be the end of the game, as LaMarcus Aldridge inspired the Portland Trail Blazers to lead 3 – 1 over the Rockets.

Scoring 29 points and crashing 10 rebounds, Aldridge helped bring more finesse and at times hard, physical basketball, while his teammate Nicolus Batum scored 25 points – redeeming himself from missing a crucial chance to wrap up the game last time round.

James Harden and Dwight Howard were on good form, as The Bearded One put up 28 points, while Dwight Howard had three less but picked up 14 rebounds. Despite this, free-throws from Williams would make the three-point difference in the final total.

At one point in the contest Blazers trailed by 11 points, but managed to put themselves back into contention over the fourth quarter. Mo Williams nailed a three-pointer, though after Wright hit one free-throw, Howard’s dunk with three and a half seconds remaining equalized, sending it to overtime – the game could have been won moments later though Williams missed the three.

Tied at 106 to start overtime, Portland would soon break away a 7-point lead with a 117-110 scoreline. The lead was cut with Daniels’ three and Harden’s jumpshot to get within 119-117.

After Lillard’s free-throws, Portland were up, 121-117. Fouled making a three-pointer Daniels successfully converted the free-throws to make it 121-120. However, Mo Williams made two more shots from the foul line to make the scoreline.

Houston lose out, marginally. An absolute thriller once again between these two teams. Massive victory for Portland who are a win away. However if Houston want to win, they’ll be going to Game 7 – imagine that. Harden and Howard were both good but maybe Houston need to find a more significant spark from Parsons and co, allowing them to take off pressure during double-teams and confidently take shots. If Aldridge and Lillard continue to blitz for Portland then they could go real far in the playoffs.

LeBron James Rallies Heat To Sweep Bobcats

Score: Miami Heat 109 – 98 Charlotte Bobcats
Location: Time Warner Cable Arena, Charlotte, NC, USA.
Date: Monday 28 April 2014
Tip-off: 7:00pm ET (12:00am BST, Tues. morning UK)
Highest points: LeBron James (MIA), 31 pts.
Highest rebounds: Josh McRoberts (CHA), 10 rebs.
Highest assists: LeBron James (MIA), 9 asts.
Current series score: Heat 4 – 0 Bobcats, Miami Heat win series, progress to Round 2

Although picking up an injury in North Carolina, LeBron James spearheaded Miami’s progression to the next round, giving LeBron plenty of time to recover.

It was one of those dream games were The Big Three were all on their game. LeBron topped the scoring with 31 points, Wade put up 15 points and Chris Bosh added two more than Wade.

LeBron James, who’s surge helped Heat control the game in the third, collided with Biymbo’s knee when going for the dunk. After taking time of on the bench, LeBron scored 11 points in the fourth quarter – Miami needn’t worry.

Turnovers, after turnovers – 16 in total, for the Bobcats and two of which lead to dunks by LeBron James as part of 22 points made from the turnovers.

Kemba Walker, going 11-15 with 29 points, had little help that would subside the Heat’s pressure on him. Charlotte, losing their 20th straight game to the Heat, still have a lot to gun for.

‘Bobcats’ no more, though. Their team name will change to ‘Hornets’ next season, and if they continue their improvements, it could be a very different scene to the Bobcats.

Miami were strong in unison, in a stand against racism. Like the Clippers did, Miami ditched their white t-shirts on the court and wore the jerseys inside out.

After LeBron James stared down Jordan when dunking in Game 3, the Bobcats’ owner embraced him and Dwyane Wade after the game.

Miami Heat were utterly dominant over the series. Yes, Charlotte may have had their leads but never did many think that Charlotte could have put together a win. As a young team though, there is plenty to bring forward, and the prospects of NBA Playoff qualification is enough to satisfy, for now. Heat have got off to a great start with their sweep, giving them plenty of time to scout future matches, as many games are looking to go down to the wire.

Dwyane Wade continues to contribute to Miami’s key tandem USA TODAY SPORTS

Ginobli, The Amazing Argentine, As Spurs Tie With Mavs

Score: San Antonio Spurs 93 – 89 Dallas Mavericks
Location: American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX, USA.
Date: Monday 28 April 2014
Tip-off: 9:30pm ET (2:30am BST, Tues. morning UK)
Highest points: Manu Ginobli (SAS), 23 pts.
Highest rebounds: Samuel Dalembert (DAL), 15 rebs.
Highest assists: Manu Ginobli (SAS), Vince Carter (DAL), 5 asts.
Current series score: Spurs 2 – 2 Mavericks

Manu Ginobli’s big game was big enough to thwart a Dallas comeback on the brink of success.

Scoring 23 points, the veteran was the centrepiece in Spurs’ effort, which saw their 20 point lead almost get cut down to losing.

After Vince Carter’s buzzer-beating three pointer deflated the Spurs in an incredible win last time round, Dallas were much quieter – even though Nowitzki scored 19, Monta Ellis had a poor game, going 6-20 and missing a good look to tie the game with a layup.

Tiago Splitter and Tim Duncan both had double-doubles, essential in building the lead, and more importantly, retaining it.

Tied at 83 from Splitter’s free-throws, Spurs got forward further, before Boris Diaw gave them a 90-87 lead. 32 seconds were left, meaning Mavs could do something about it.

Whatever they did, was not good enough.

After Ellis missed the three, the towering German Dirk Nowitzki scored off the rebound, though Ginobli’s freee-throws and two more points added would see the Spurs past, to tie the series.

Its been clear in this series of how the games pan out – they don’t necessarily stick close throughout the game, but definitely do in the fourth. Monta Ellis’ poor performance really left the Mavericks short handed, and Boris Diaw giving the extra edge to Spurs was what they needed.

That’s all for Game 4.

Miami are clean through, but the same can’t be said for five series, which are tied. There was plenty of superb basketball yet again.

Teague Lights Up Pacers To Leave Indiana Frustrated

Score: Indiana Pacers 85 – 98 Atlanta Hawks
Location: Phillips Arena, Atlanta, GA, USA.
Date: Thursday 24 April 2014
Tip-off: 7:00pm ET (12:00am BST Fri. morning UK)
Highest points: Jeff Teague (ATL), 22 pts.
Highest rebounds: Paul George (IND), Paul Millsap (ATL), 14 rebs.
Highest assists: Jeff Teague (ATL), 10 asts.
Current series score: Pacers 1 – 2 Hawks

As chants of “overrated” filled the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, the Hawks were, yet again, on course to defeat Indiana Pacers, emerging the #1 seed into further doubt.

Jeff Teague, who’s appearing as a true and key contender, scored game-high points of 22, while also dishing out the most assists of 10, some of which went to Kyle Korver, who hit four three-pointers over the course of the game.

Atlanta hit 10 three-pointers in total over the second half of play, taking the game well out of reach for the Pacers.

There was some controversy and debates in a play where Jeff Teague scored a three-pointer. However, speculation that he was on the line. After video review the referees ruled in favor of Teague, with his foot being behind the line when the ball was released. That wouldn’t really matter, with the Hawks winning by a 13-point margin.

Despite crashing 14 boards, Paul George’s subdued game saw him being locked down to just 12 points and 3-11 shooting. While Luis Scolia scored 17 off the bench and Stephenson scored 21, Pacers were not good enough.

After a below-par performance Paul George acknowledged the Pacers’ problems, commenting that “our toughness is questionable right now”.

Hawks key advantage would come in the third quarter where they gained the upperhand. Going into the fourth quart leading 67 – 58.

Kyle Korver hit a three to extend the advantage to 12 points with a few minutes remaining, and Pacers were left scratching their heads as the clock ticked down.

For a #1 seed its simply not good enough from the Pacers. Anyone affiliated will be overshadowed by disappointment after the game. Their game 2 revamp should have acted as a boost going forward for Pacers to take control, though a strong looking Hawks were a well-oiled machine. Paul George needs consistent performances like Game 2, especially in the playoffs, if Pacers want to establish themselves. They can’t allow hiccups to proceed, or one will be big enough to put their season into a tailspin.

Grizzlies Take Thunder To Overtime And Win Again

Score: Oklahoma City Thunder 95 – 98 Memphis Grizzlies

Location: FedEx Forum, Memphis, TN, USA.
Date: Thursday 24 April 2014
Tip-off: 8:00pm ET (1:00am BST, Fri. morning UK)
Highest points: Kevin Durant (OKC), Russell Westbrook (OKC), 30 pts.
Highest rebounds: Russell Westbrook (OKC), 13 rebs.
Highest assists: Zach Randolph (MEM), 6 asts.
Current series score: Thunder 1 – 2 Grizzlies
Thunder once again pulled the short straw in overtime, as the Grizzlies held on for a narrow win in overtime at the FedEx Forum in Memphis.

Russell Westbrook hit a clutch four-point play in overtime but it was not enough to halt Memphis’ incredible home run, with 15 straight wins at their homecourt.

Kevin Durant, like Russell Westbrook, scored 30 points, although Durant’s big stat was compromised missing all three-point attempts with just 10-27 shooting. Meanwhile Westbrook went 9-26 from the field.

Leading by 17 during the game, the Grizzlies almost let that slip as they tied with Thunder lighting it up in the remaining 7 minutes.

A remarkable 17-0 run from Thunder, would take it to another overtime like Game 2, but Thunder could not do enough.

In overtime, Courtney Lee hit three of fourth free throws in the final 10 seconds to seal the game for Memphis, triumph for his side in another thrilling contest.

Oklahoma’s first lead since scoring nine points in the game, after Kevin Durant’s three-point play gave Thunder an 88-85 lead in overtime.

Eventually Memphis would get back on track with good shooting from the line, going on to take the lead in the series.

It’s shaping up to be an absolutely incredible series between Memphis and Oklahoma. Two consecutive overtime finishes in games that go down to the wire prove both teams have a lot more to give. Kevin Durant, if in search for MVP, will need to be more consistent down the stretch as his three-point attempts, if made, would have saw Thunder past unscaved. Onto game 3, hotly anticipated by many-a-basketball-fan.

Griffin Steps Up As Clippers Score Narrow Lead Against Warriors In Oakland
Score: Los Angeles Clippers 98 – 96 Golden State Warriors

Location: Oracle Arena, Oakland, CA, USA.
Date: Thursday 24 April 2014
Tip-off: 10:30pm ET (3:30am BST, Fri. morning UK)
Highest points: Blake Griffin (LAC), 32 pts.
Highest rebounds: DeAndre Jordan (LAC), 22 rebs.
Highest assists: Steph Curry (GSW), 15 asts.
Current series score: Clippers 2 – 1 Warriors
Clippers triumphed across the state from their home court as Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin proved the pivotal centrepiece for Los Angeles’ narrow win.

After Warriors took homecourt advantage at the Staples in Game 1, Clippers fought hard to take it back, contrary to their blowout win in Game 2.

Blake Griffin’s game high 32 points was another contribution to his outstanding total of 83 points over the first three games of the series. He combined with DeAndre Jordan to create a brittle front duo shutting down Klay Thompson and Steph Curry, while powering their way to an 18-point lead.

Steph Curry missed a step-back 3 pointer over Chris Paul, after hitting some clutch shots beyond the arc prior, and no foul was given with Clippers gaining the victory.

The backcourt duo of Thompson and Curry, although locked down in a difficult game, managed to produce some late jitters for Clippers.

Just like the fast-paced action, it looks like the series will continue to go back and forth. Doc Rivers comments where he stated that Clippers could play better was of course accurate, considering Warriors were far from their best, a direct result of the tough defense to their pivotal backcourt tandem of Klay Thompson and Steph Curry. There was some great sense of unity for the Clippers, who showed signs of Championship character and are making a statement to go much further in the Play-offs this time. When top players like Jordan, Griffin and Paul hit the top mark, Clippers are a scary team.

Nets Go Into Playoff Mode To Lead Series
Score: Toronto Raptors 98 – 102 Brooklyn Nets

Location: Barclays Center, Brooklyn, NY, USA.
Date: Friday 25 April 2014
Tip-off: 7:00pm ET (12:00am BST, Sat. morning UK)
Highest points: DeMar Derozan (TOR), 30 pts.
Highest rebounds: Jonas Valanciunas (TOR), 10 rebs.
Highest assists: Deron Williams (BKN), 8 asts.
Current series score: Raptors 1 – 2 Nets
Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett did exactly what they were supposed to after being acquired from the Boston Celtics in the postseason – they stepped up and put them into playoff mode with a 102-98 win over the Raptors.

DeMar DeRozan yet again proved a tough challenge for the Raptors, though Joe Johnson was Nets’ highest scorer with 29 points.

Brooklyn came close to squandering a 15-point lead in the fourth quarter, though Johnson sealed the win with free-throws in the final five seconds.

Nets’ point-guard Deron Williams contributed 22 points and dished out 8 assists, but the pivotal weight came down to the Nets’ veterans in Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.

After standing out in Game 1, to a below-par Game 2 performance, Pierce stepped back up with 18 points. His fellow veteran Kevin Garnett was key in the final plays that lead to wrapping up the win.

Raptors were facing an uphill climb at a raucous Barclaus Center after Kyle Lowry was fouled out, to conclude his 15-point game.

Trailing by 15 points in the fourth quarter, Raptors edged close to a comeback but they fell off the mark.

This series is proving to be another really close one. Neither team has lead by more than five points late in the third over the two playoff games, so Nets winning here was quite significant. There seemed to be a big euphoria and somewhat edge to Brookyln at the Barclays Center, with Pierce and Garnett standing tall on their homecourt – Nets’ win here gives them a huge edge.

Bulls Fight Back In US Capital
Score: Chicago Bulls 100 – 97 Washington Wizards

Location: Verizon Center, Washington, DC, USA.
Date: Friday 25 April 2014
Tip-off: 8:00pm ET (1:00am BST, Sat. morning UK)
Highest points: Mike Dunleavy (CHI), 35 pts.
Highest rebounds: Marcin Gortat (WAS), Trevor Ariza (WAS), 11 rebs.
Highest assists: D.J. Augustin (CHI), John Wall (WAS), 7 asts.
Current series score: Bulls 1 – 2

After Washington swept Chicago on the first two games on the road, Chicago put on a big response back at the Verizon Center to give them back hope going into the remainder of their best-of-seven series.

Mike Dunleavy was on fire from the three-point line, hitting them at will and leaving Wizards withered.

After hitting them so well in the first, Bradley Beal cut him down with a big block in the second half, only for Dunleavy to fight back and score the pivotal three pointer with 24 seconds remaining.

Going 8-10 from three point range Dunleavy stepped up in his 12th career playoff game and said that “We’ve (Bulls have) got Sunday for sure”, indicating their desire to win Game 4.

Bradley Beal, who “guaranteed” falsely that Dunleavy would not score any more three-pointers in the second half, score 13 in the final phase, alas in vein as Wizards succumb to the bolstering Bulls.

Nene, who had been vital for Washington in Game 1 and Game 2, may not go onto play Game 4 after being ejected. The Brazillian forced a head-to-head confrontation with Butler, grabbing him by the back of his neck in the altercation.

It was the most significant backstory to the game whereby Nene could be facing a fine or suspension. The lack of his presence will be a big blow to the Wizards.

After a close game, Dunleavy stepped up with just a shot clock left and hit one more three, breaking triple-digits for the Bulls and putting them well back into the game.

A win in DC is absolutely crucial for the Bulls, as they were disappointed for back-to-back losses back home. It was clear in their previous losses that they were lacking a major scorer down the stretch, and the 33-year-old Mike Dunleavy emerged as it for the game. They’ll hope they can access the untapped potential of Bulls’ scoring and tie the series to snatch homecourt advantage from the Wizards.

Dunleavy may have saved the Bulls’ season USA TODAY SPORTS
Houston’s Harden Hammers Blazers In Portland
Score: Houston Rockets 121 – 116 Portland Trail Blazers

Location: Moda Center, Portland, OR, USA.
Date: Friday 25 April 2014
Tip-off: 10:30pm ET (3:30am BST, Sat. morning UK)
Highest points: James Harden (HOU), 37 pts.
Highest rebounds: Dwight Howard (HOU), 14 rebs.
Highest assists: James Harden (HOU), Damian Lillard (POR), 6 asts.
Current series score: Rockets 1 –  2 Blazers
It was another thriller between Portland and Houston  this time, Rockets would prevail, not through their star power of James Harden or Dwight Howard, but essentially defined by rookie Troy Daniels.

Rockets were eager to halt Portland, who had scored back-to-back wins over, and they took it to overtime. In the remaining 11 seconds, Troy Daniels, who made his pro-debut only in March, nailed a three-pointer to sink the Trail Blazers.

James Harden was in a slump going into Game 3, with 14-for-47 shooting from the field in the opening game. This would all change instantly though as he scored his career-high points number in the playoffs. He combined with Chandler Parsons to score back-to-back three pointers, opening up a 71-65 lead halfway through the third quarter.

Portland would be rallied on by avid fans in attendance, managing to lead a comeback when Harden gave Rockets a 90-80 lead with with 10 minutes left on the clock.

Damian Lillard managed to put Portland back into the game, making successive free-throws, a jumper and a shot when he was fouled. Soon after his layup put Portland 107-105 up, before James Harden hit four consecutive free throws. Batum would tie it up to take it to overtime.

Batum missed a three pointer in response to Troy Daniel’s long-range shot, before Harden sealed it with a pair of free-throws to secure a five-point win.

Another thriller and crucial for Houston to take a win in Portland. After losing what was touted a “must win” from Rockets’ guard James Harden, they are on course again with a win here. Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge were again on top, although they were outdone by Harden, Asik and Howard – with Daniels’ final push. Thrilling game, Game 4 cannot come faster.

James Heats Up For Miami As They Ease Past Bobcats

Score: Miami Heat 98 – 85 Charlotte Bobcats

Location: Time Warner Cable Arena, Charlotte, NC, USA.
Date: Saturday 26 April 2014
Tip-off: 7:00pm ET (12:00am BST, Sun. morning UK)
Highest points: LeBron James (MIA), 30 pts.
Highest rebounds: LeBron James (MIA), 10 rebs.
Highest assists: LeBron James (MIA), Dwyane Wade (MIA), Luke Ridnour (CHA), 6 asts.
Current series score: Heat 3 – 0 Bobcats

LeBron James stood tall with his Miami Heat teammates beside him as his 30 point and 10 rebound game put the Heat just one win away from sweeping the Charlotte Bobcats.

Dwyane Wade, who is managing to find his playoff typical form, contributed 17 points to the Heat’s total.

Meanwhile, Al Jefferson, who has been nursing an injury over the season, scored 20 points, but Bobcats were no match for the Heat, and are still in search for their first ever playoff win in franchise history.

Miami eased off for the first half as Charlotte took a long lead, though as halftime approached the visitors reached another gear, closing the half on a 16-4 run, after Chalmers’ 3 pointer put them 2 points up, 42-20.

Carter Buzzer Beater Edges Mavericks Past Spurs
Score: San Antonio Spurs 108 – 109 Dallas Mavericks
Location: American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX, USA.
Date: Saturday 26 April 2014
Tip-off: 4:30pm ET (9:30 pm BST UK)
Highest points: Monta Ellis (DAL), 29 pts.
Highest rebounds: Thiago Splitter (SAS), 13 rebs.
Highest assists: Jose Calderon (DAL), 9 asts.
Current series score: Spurs 1 – 2 Mavericks
The Dallas Mavericks welcomed Spurs to the American Airlines Center in Dallas with a hotly contested battle, and sent them out in spectacular fashion courtesy of Vince Carter.

Dallas inbounded with 1.7 seconds remaining, falling to Carter, who nailed the contested shot from the corner as the Dallas crowd erupted in Euphoria.

The winning shot came after Manu Ginobli’s late layup that put San Antonio 108-106 up, prompting the hosts to call a timeout. The Argentine worked off a screen over Tim Duncan to follow a prolonged dribble, as his shot trickled of the rim before going in.

Ginobli’s layup and Carter’s winner would follow a tense final minute, seeing Ellis’ three-point play after being fouled by Diaw before the latter scored to put Spurs back in front. Ellis hit a floater before Ginobli hit the layup, and the rest is, history.

Monta Ellis was key in orchestrating the win for the Mavericks, as his 29 points helped to keep the Spurs in a fully fledged view throughout the final quarter.

Dirk Nowitzki, scoring 18 points, was though far from his best, with the Spurs managing to contain him. That wouldn’t phase his teammates, as proven.

Spurs assembled a run which wrapped up the first quarter with the visitors leading 34 – 27. Though, Tony Parker, scoring 19 points, would only register 2 points in the second half of the game.

Despite the Spurs run to put them back in control after Mavericks’ hot start, it was a much closer affair in the second half before the Mavericks would edge it by just one point.

Veterans can often be metaphorically overlooked as slow and boring, but this says otherwise. A thrilling game and a buzzer beater – that’s all you really need to say. Vince Carter’s three-pointer was incredible, beating the buzzer with a shot like that means so much more in the playoffs. Lets hope there are many more to come because that was just euphoric.

NBA Playoffs 2014 Round 1, Game 2 Recap, Highlights, Stats & More

NBA
NBA Playoffs 2014
Game 2, Round 1
21-23 April 2014

BY NISAR KHAN

Game 2 from the first round of the NBA Playoffs saw five series get tied, while Wizards, Heat and Blazers still are in contention to sweep. There were thrilling overtime finishes, blowouts, and individual player records… smashed.

After the Playoffs got underway in a contrasting weekend, Game 2 had plenty to offer, giving us the definitive projection on the series to come. Full recap, highlights, stats and more from the Game 1s here »

Here, you’ll find recaps from each game in Game 2, with full scores, information, and the key stats like highest points and rebounds.

Thunder’s Revival Falls Short As Grizzlies Win In Overtime

Score: Memphis Grizzlies 111 – 105 Oklahoma City Thunder
Location: Chesapeake Energy Arena, Oklahoma City, OK, USA.
Tip-off: Monday 21st April 2014, 1:00am BST (Tues. morning for UK) / 8:00pm ET
Highest points: Kevin Durant (OKC), 36 pts.
Highest rebounds: Kevin Durant (OKC), Serge Ibaka (OKC), 11 rebs.
Highest assists: Mike Conley (MEM), 12 asts.

Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant’s efforts to force overtime against the Memphis Grizzlies will fall short in overtime as Zach Randolph – scoring 25 points – and his teammates rattled the Thunder.

Mike Conley had a great game also, adding 19 points and 12 assists to Grizzlies’ total.

While Oklahoma thrived on the fast-break to comfortably see off the Grizzlies in Game 1, Memphis managed to execute the perfect hindrance and shut down the fast-break opportunities.

Big names for Oklahoma City Thunder added big totals to the stats, although the poor percentage of shooting compromised this. Scoring 36 points, Durant only had 12-27 shooting, while Russell Westbrook’s 11-29 shot percentage made less of his 29 point effort.

A miserable 26 seconds, after Zach Randolph gave his side a two-point lead in overtime, was followed by a Thunder turnover as Serge Ibaka travelled. It was made a four-point game with Courtney Lee’s free throws before Zach Randolph added the final pair to seal the game, just nine seconds before the culmination of a tense encounter.

For the Thunder, the hard work coming through a below-par first half to force overtime, was compromised with a sequence of errors for Oklahoma City, allowing the Grizzlies to snatch the game away.

It’s back in favor of Memphis, with Game 3 being on their homecourt.

Clippers Rout Warriors To Tie Series

Score: Golden State Warriors 98 – 138 Los Angeles Clippers
Location: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA, USA.
Tip-off: Monday 21st April 2014, 3:30am (Tues. morning UK), 10:30pm ET
Highest points: Blake Griffin (LAC), 35 pts.
Highest rebounds: DeAndre Jordan (LAC), 9 rebs.
Highest assists: Darren Collison (LAC), Chris Paul (LAC), 10 asts.

Did you have to read that scoreline again? You’re not alone.

The Los Angeles Clippers revived themselves emphatically after being seen off by Warriors in an action-packed opener.

Blake Griffin, who fouled out in Game 1, was a revitalized player as he scored 35 points and didn’t foul in the game.

Intent was made crystal clear as the Clippers laid down the battle lines early. A 14 – 4 run gave them full steam ahead coming out of the blocks.

Klay Thompson, who was the centrepiece of Warriors’ win in the previous game, scored just 7 points, while fouling 4 times – the same amount as Steph Curry who scored 24 points.

Curry’s terrific third quarter was alas in vein, as his 20 points only helped Warriors get within a 25-point margin. The blowout was inevitable at that point.

Clippers were desperate to get back on track and did so with intense game play to leave Warriors wounded.

Paul George Marshals Pacers To Comfortable Hawks Win

Score: Atlanta Hawks 85 – 101 Indiana Pacers
Location: Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indiana, IN, USA.
Tip-off: Tuesday 22nd April 2014 (Weds. morning UK), 12:00am BST, 7:00pm ET
Highest points: Paul George (IND), 27 pts.
Highest rebounds: Paul George (IND), 10 rebs.
Highest assists: Paul George (IND), David West (IND), 6 asts.

After a loss in Game 1 that left the top seed with a lot of nagging questions, Paul George proved the solution in a dominant performance all over the court to see the Pacers past Hawks, evening the series at 1-1.

Soaring high in the stat boards for the game, Paul George’s 27 points, combined with 10 rebounds and 6 assists were the cornerstone of Pacers’ victory at the Bankers’ Life Fieldhouse. In addition, George had four steals and also blocked a shot from Jeff Teague.

Following their defeat on Saturday, the Pacers wanted to rebound with a big win – and on Tuesday, they did exactly just that.

While Hawks ran away with the game in the third quarter of Game 1, Indiana Pacers stepped up for a big third quarter this time round, Hawks had a total of only 33 points in the third quarter.

To go with a perfect free-throw percentage, Paul George went 9 for 16 from the field and had a 3pt FG of 5-7.

Although George spearheaded the charge to the win, he was provided with more than substantial assistance at the hands of Luis Scola (20 pts, 7 rebs), George Hill (15 pts, 5-6 2nd half FG) and others.

It was a dramatic and sudden turnaround from the Pacers who quickly erased doubts, after going into half time trailing 52 – 48.

In the third quarter the Pacers were all guns blazing with a tremedous 31 – 13, and lead 79 – 65 heading into the fourth quarter of the game.

Pacers scored on, and marched on to a big win that ties the series with the Atlanta Hawks.

Looking by far the better team this time round, it has put doubts on hold that aroused following Pacers missteps towards the end of the season. Being 1st seed though, there’s still a lot of pressure for them, so taking a game at Atlanta is a must. Paul George stepping up like this are the performances that make the all-important difference.

DeRozan Steps Up To Drop Nets

Score: Brookyln Nets 95 – 100 Toronto Raptors
Location: Air Canada Centre, Toronto, ON, Canada.
Tip-off: Tuesday 22nd April 2014 (Weds. morning UK), 12:30am BST, 7:30pm ET
Highest points: DeMar DeRozan (TOR), 30 pts.
Highest rebounds: Jonas Valančiūnas (TOR), 14 rebs.
Highest assists: Grei Vasquez (TOR), 8 asts.

Demar DeRozan struggled in Game 1 against the Nets. Game 2 was the polar opposite.

Putting on an All-Star caliber performance, 17 of his points came in the fourth quarter that gave the Canadian side the final push up against the Nets.

DeRozan was pivotal in contribution to Raptors’ attacking prowess, as he went for 9-21 in shots, while his fourth quarter performance go 9-for-11. He missed only two free throws out of his 14 attempts on trips to the line.

Described as a “must-win” by Raptors’ Amir Johnson, Raptors saw him score 16 points while Kyle Lowry added 14 points to the winning total.

Paul Pierce was far off his winning performance from Game 1 when he lead the Nets to the victory. Foul trouble and a 2-11 from the field, with no three-pointers scored out of 6 attempts, the former Celtics player scored only 7 points.

Leading 66-64 going into the fourth, Nets had, till then, taken advantage of over 20 turnovers from Toronto. However, after Pierce’s three-point play that tied the game at 83, DeRozan hit two jumpers around Pierce’s miss. As a result, with just over 2 minutes left, Raptors were up by 4.

Another miss from Pierce lead to DeRozan’s rebound, and the Raptors went on to hit 4 free throws within the final 12 seconds, as Raptors marched on to a 100-95 victory.

Paul Pierce simply didn’t have it in the game. Had he tied up a few of the many chances that came, especially in the fourth quarter, then the result could have been very different. However, Nets will relish on the fact that they picked up the win away, giving them an upper-hand going into Game 3s and Game 4s at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Wizards Stun Bulls In Overtime

Score: Washington Wizards 101 – 99 Chicago Bulls
Location: United Center, Chicago, IL, USA.
Tip-off: Tuesday 22nd April 2014 (Weds. morning UK), 02:30am BST, 9:30pm ET
Highest points: Bradley Beal (WAS), 26 points.
Highest rebounds: Joakim Noah (CHI), 12 rebs.
Highest assists: Bradley Beal (WAS), Trevor Ariza (WAS), D.J. Augustin (CHI), 7 asts.

Washington Wizards got back-to-back away wins over Chicago and fought really hard to do so.

Nene, who torched Bulls last time round, scores 17 points, 6 of which came in overtime while Bradly Beale finished strong with 26 points.

John Wall, winner of the NBA All-Star Dunk contest in February, had 16 points and 7 assists for the Wizards.

Wizards forced overtime after trailing by 10 points in the fourth quarter, leading 87-77 five minutes in.

After the lead was cut to 91-85, Bradley Beal would prove the difference. Hitting a three-pointer, then a layup followed by one of two free throws, the game was tied 91-91.

For the remaining 42 seconds, neither team could convert, so overtime was on the cards.

Nene scored six points in overtime to get the Wizards going, and after a two-point lead opened up later, Kirk Hinrich squandered the attempt to equalize on the free-throw line.

Washington Wizards have picked up two huge wins for the opening two games away, completely snatching the homecourt advantage. For the Bulls its another story of a big lead squandered, coming closer this time, but not close enough. They lack a key scorer that can consistently be relied on down the stretch – but can they still win it, with two games in Washington to follow?

LeBron Scores 32 As Miami Lock Down Bobcats

Score: Charlotte Bobcats 97 – 101 Miami Heat
Location: American Airlines Arena, Miami, FL, USA.
Tip-off: Wednesday 23rd April 2014 (Thurs. morning UK), 12:00am BST, 7:00pm ET
Highest points: LeBron James (MIA), 32 pts.
Highest rebounds: Al Jefferson (CHA), 13 rebs.
Highest assists: Kemba Walker (CHA), LeBron James (MIA), 8 asts.

Miami continued their run in search for a third Championship title as they went 2-0 against the Charlotte Bobcats.

LeBron James stepped up to the plate again, as he scored 32 points and dished out 8 assists. Dwyane Wade scored 15 points and was influential as he had a steal to seal the win in the final play.

Charlotte Bobcats were not pushing over easily, though. Al Jefferson, persevering through a left plantar fascia train, scoring 18 points and crashing 13 rebounds. Claiming that the strain worsened in the game, he shot 9 for 23.

For a lengthy spell of the game, Miami’s lead was up to double digits, although with 50 seconds left Miami had a 97-94 lead.

LeBron James suffered a knock as he drove to the rim, as McRoberts’ elbow struck LeBron knocking him down in agony.

After recovering, the four-time MVP would hit one of his free-throws to make it a two-possession game. Fortunately for Miami, it put it out of reach with a two-possession game, and Kemba Walker’s three with less than 12 seconds remaining put the Bobcats within one point.

Charlotte would not score again, and the Heat sealed the victory in the final seconds.

Speaking after the game, LeBron James stated that Miami “can play better basketball”, prompting improvements from himself and teammates, who were pushed hard by Charlotte. It was definitely expected though that they would pick up the back-to-back wins. Al Jefferson, even nursing an injury, played exceptional.

Heat were not dominant but did enough USA TODAY

Mavs Squash Spurs To Pick Up Away Win

Score: Dallas Mavericks 113 – 92 San Antonio Spurs
Location: AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX, USA.
Tip-off: Wednesday 23rd April 2014 (Thurs. morning UK), 01:00am BST, 8:00PM et
Highest points: Manu Ginobli (SAS), 27 pts.
Highest rebounds: Samuel Dalembert (DAL), DeJuan Blair (DAL), Tim Duncan (SAS), 7 rebs.
Highest assists: Devin Harris (DAL), Jose Calderon (DAL), 5 asts.

Being that Dallas and San Antonio are in the same state, homecourt advantage may not matter. Think again.

Dallas Mavericks tied the series on Wednesday night to thwart Manu Ginobli’s game-high 27 points and inflict some vulnerability on last-year’s runners up.

Against the tide, the eighth seed snatched a 10-game losing streak to Spurs with a 21-point win.

Monta Ellis’ 21 points and Shawn Marion’s 20 points, in addition to Nowitski’s 16, Harris’ 18 and Calderon’s 12 points, were more than enough to outscore Spurs’ with only three players scoring more than 7 points in the game.

Mavericks played tough, to solute the tough Spurs’ defense described as “soft” from Manu Ginobli.

Physicality was epitomized for Dallas anytime Parker and Ginobli made first-half drives to the lane. Quite the shut-out.

Although coach Popovich had complains about fouls, it didn’t make a difference, with Spurs shooting poor, just 18-29 from the free-throw line.

Three-pointers, with exception to Ginobli were shut down well as Spurs went 5 for 14 from beyond the arc.

The closest Spurs would get was 5 points from Mavericks. The Texas tandems battle on.

LaMarcus Aldridge Torches Rockets… Again

Score: Portland Trail Blazers 112 – 105 Houston Rockets
Location: Toyota Center, Houston, TX, USA.
Tip-off: Wednesday 23rd April 2014 (Thurs. morning UK), 02:30am BST, 9:30pm ET
Highest points: LaMarcus Aldridge (POR), 43 pts.
Highest rebounds: Dwight Howard (HOU), 14 rebs.
Highest assists: Damian Lillard (POR), 8 asts.

LaMarcus Aldridge delivered another standout performance for Portland as they got back-to-back road wins against Houston at the Toyota Center.

Scoring 43 points, he was completely dominant, putting Blazers’ in control as he returns to his home state of Texas.

Aldridge smashed a record in the process, becoming the first Portland player to have two-40 point games in the postseason, and his 89 total points in the first two playoff games are the third highest in the past 50 years.

Damian Lillard further sunk the Rockets as his 8 assits and six-free throws down the stretch made the win much more imminent than Game 1’s thriller.

Despite Houston’s clear focus to shut down Aldridge they weren’t substantial enough to halt the wrecking machine known as Aldridge.

Leading into the fourt, Portland led 83-77 and Rockets could not stop them.

Five playoff series were tied in Game 2, meaning we are guaranteed to have five game 5s, while Portland, Washington and Miami still stand for a possible sweep.

Two thrilling overtime finishes, baffling blowouts and LaMarcus Aldridge. That is all.

NBA Playoffs 2014 Round 1, Game 1 Recap, Highlights, Stats & More: Playoff Season In Full Swing

NBA
NBA Playoffs 2014
Game 1, Round 1
19-20 April 2014

BY NISAR KHAN

The NBA Playoffs got underway this weekend and there was no shortage in surprises. From Pierce inspiring the Nets over the Raptors, to Pacers’ pandemonium and the late, nail-biting thrillers. Playoff season is in full swing…

Starting in Brookyln as the Toronto Raptors fell short up against the Nets, and ending with an absolute thriller in Houston between the Rockets and Trail Blazers.

Here, you’ll find recaps from each game, with full scores, information, and the key stats like highest points and rebounds.

Paul Pierce Inspires Nets To Raptors Win In Playoffs’ Opener

Score: Brooklyn Nets 94 – 87 Toronto Raptors
Location: Air Canada Centre, Toronto, ON, Canada.
Tip-off: Saturday 19th April 2014, 5:30pm BST (12:30pm ET)
Highest points: Deron Williams (BKN), Joe Johnson (BKN), 24 pts.
Highest rebounds: Jonas Valančiūnas (TOR), 18 rebs.
Highest assists: Kyle Lowry (TOR), Greivis Vasquez (TOR), 8 asts.

Paul Pierce scored nine points in the final quarter to sink the Toronto Raptors as the Nets’ Playoff experience came into full effect.

Deron Williams and Joe Johnson were joint highest scorers with 24 points each, with Nets’ point-guard “setting the tone”, as coach Jason Kidd described it, scoring 18 points in the first half.

Paul Pierce broke into this week’s power rankings for his efforts that helped to halt the Raptors and their simmering momentum.

A hotly contested opening game saw no shortage in effort from the Raptors, as Kyle Lowry added 22 points, while Jonas Valanciunas scored 17 pts and picked up 18 boards.

The Raptors evened things out around two minutes into the final quarter, tying the game at 67, before a three-pointer by Jonas Vasquez would give the Raptors a 77-76 lead five minutes in.

However, Nets would break away with former Celtics’ Garnett and Pierce assisting a turnaround jumper by Garnett, helped with a three by Pierce and basket from Johsnon to give Nets an 82 – 76 lead.

From then on in, Pierce adding a few more buckets around Vasquez’s three pointer, and Brooklyn’s six free throws within 22 seconds, they took the opening game of the series.

Brooklyn Nets’ substantial investment in Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce proved pivotal for the Nets in the game, as combined with Joe Johnson and Deron Williams, proved to be a winning combination. Can it go all the way?

Klay Thompson Helps Warriors Take Early Lead Over Clippers

Score: Golden State Warriors 109 – 105 Los Angeles Clippers
Location: Staples Center, Los Angeles, CA, USA.
Tip-off: Saturday 19th April 2014, 8:30pm BST (3:30pm ET)
Highest points: Chris Paul (LAC), 28 pts.
Highest rebounds: DeAndre Jordan (LAC), 14 rebs.
Highest assists: Chris Paul (LAC), 8 asts.

The Golden State Warriors persevered through an unsteady start, with Klay Thompson scoring 22 points, to outdo the Clippers in their homecourt at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

In a game that went down to the wire, whereby the game was tied at 18 different occasions. With a mere 90 seconds left on the clock, the teams were tied at 105 points.

Blake Griffin, who scored 16 points, was fouled out late in the game after suffering to contain the Warriors. The Clippers forward was limited to four minutes of play in the first half after getting into early foul trouble.

A fast, back-and-forth game between two powerful Californian teams made for an entertaining ball game that should bring about a very exciting series.

Clipppers’ errors were exemplified with a total of 17 turnovers in the game.

Hawks Slow Down Pacers To Highlight Indiana Difficulties

Score: Atlanta Hawks 101 – 93 Indiana Pacers
Location: Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Indiana, IN, USA.
Tip-off: Saturday 19th April 2014, 12:00am BST (7:00pm ET)
Highest points: Jeff Teague (ATL), 28 pts.
Highest rebounds: DeMarre Carroll (ATL), Paul George (IND), 10 rebs.
Highest assists: Jeff Teague (ATL), Paul George (IND), 5 asts.

For a #1 seed, Indiana performed like the complete contrary.

After a close game throughout, the Hawks would fly away late to take the important win over Indiana at the Fieldhouse.

Hawks’ Jeff Teague turned on the style to demolish the Pacers’ plans and leave them with a whole grasp of nagging questions.

As the first half drew to a close, Kyle Korver threw up a putback shot with seconds remaining, meaning the game went into the halftime break tied at 50 – setting up for a well-contested second half, at least that’s what was thought…

Atlanta Hawks came out a much better team in the second while the opposite could be said for the Indiana Pacers. Hawks ended up leading 60 – 58 with 8 consecutive points before opening up a game-changing 14 – 0 run.

It was a sudden blur to a demise in their game plan when they trailed 74 – 58, and Atlanta Hawks controlled the game thereon.

Their performance was worryingly inconsistent for the best home performers in the league as they struggled to get back to single-digits, before Stephenson hit one from beyond the arc to make the game into more of a formality at least.

Pacers will hope for drastic changes in Game 2, with the Hawks bringing a bigger fight than what was anticipated.

Thunder Strikes Early For Oklahoma City Over Memphis

Score: Memphis Grizzlies 86 – 100 Oklahoma City Thunder
Location: Chesapeake Energy Arena, Oklahoma City, OK, USA.
Tip-off: Saturday 19th April 2014 / Sunday 20th April 2014 (US/UK), 2:30am BST (9:30pm ET)
Highest points: Kevin Durant (OKC), 33 pts.
Highest rebounds: Zach Randolph (MEM), 11 rebs.
Highest assists: Mike Conley (MEM), 11 pts.

Kevin Durant, crowned NBA’s scoring Champion again, was the cornerstone of the Thunder’s home win in a convincing win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

In the midst of the game Thunder had a 25-point lead, though the Grizzlies would not be tamed into a complete blowout.

The game, though, was put back out of reach over five minutes with Kevin Durant torching them with 11 points to help them win 14 points ahead.

Thunder pulled through an uncomfortable third quarter to bounce back and take the win strongly in the fourth.

Russell Westbrook, whose absence lead to Grizzlies knocking out the Thunder in the previous round, found his much needed form with 23 points and 10 rebounds.

Zach Randolph made important contributions to the Grizz alas in vein though, getting into foul trouble that stopped the extension of his 21 points and 11 boards.

Can Oklahoma go all the way with Durant making a surge for MVP?

Spurs Top Mavs As Texas Tandems Collide

Score: Dallas Mavericks 85 – 90 San Antonio Spurs
Location: AT&T Center, San Antonio, TX, USA.
Tip-off: Sunday 20th April 2014, 6:00pm BST (1:00pm ET)
Highest points: Tim Ducan (SAS), 27 pts.
Highest rebounds: Tiago Splitter (SAS), 11 rebs.
Highest assists: Tony Parker (SAS), 6 asts.

‘The Big Fundamental’ Tim Duncan opened the playoffs by dispatching fellow Texas veteran Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks to better their NBA Finals’ runner-up success last year.

Scoring 27 points, Tim Duncan also overcame an injury scare to continue the game for the Spurs, with his teammate Tony Parker adding 21 points. The other member of the trio, Manu Ginobli, added 17 points to Spurs’ topping total at the AT&T Center.

Trailing by 10 points, the Spurs, Duncan scored nine points going 4-5 from the paint in the final quarter to put the Spurs ahead.

Mavericks’ top scorer Devin Harris, added 19 points to Dallas’ total of 85 points, as they pushed Spurs far and almost stunned them with a big upset.

Heat Sizzle Fierce Bobcats

Score: Charlotte Bobcats 88 – 99 Miami Heat
Location: American Airlines Arena, Miami, FL, USA.
Tip-off: Sunday 20th April 2014, 8:30pm BST (3:30pm ET)
Highest points: LeBron James (MIA), 27 pts.
Highest rebounds: Al Jefferson (CHA), Chris Andersen (MIA), 10 rebs.
Highest assists: Kemba Walker (MEM), 6 asts.

A game Charlotte Bobcats may have momentarily lead against the Miami Heat on their homecourt, but they were undoubtedly beaten by last season’s Champions.

Topping the stats was LeBron James who scored 27 points against the Bobcats.

Dwyane Wade got into his renowned Playoff form, with his improvin health allowing him to add 23 points.

The game was based, essentially, on two significant runs in either half to outdo Bobcats’ first half lead and take the game firmly away.

Al Jefferson, scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds, suffered a strained plantar fiscia following a mis-footing in the first quarter. He was treated with two injections which allowed him to continue playing.

On Sunday, #LeBronVsBird reached Worldwide trends on Twitter, as LeBron James passed Larry Bird for No.8 on the NBA’s all-time playoff scoring ranks. “The King” passed the Celtics’ legend with his final point of the game.

Miami HEAT were not exactly cruising throughout though, leading 72-65 after a very close third quarter.

Eventually, Miami found their stride, and were more than a few steps ahead as they closed in on victory.

Washington Turn On The Magic In Chicago

Score: Washington Wizards 102 – 93 Chicago Bulls
Location: United Center, Chicago, IL, USA.
Tip-off: Sunday 20th April 2014, 12:00am BST (7:00pm ET)
Highest points: Nene (WAS)L 24 pts.
Highest rebounds: Marcin Gortat (WAS), 13 rebs.
Highest assists: Bradley Beal (WAS), 7 asts.

Nene put on a marquee performance for the Washington Wizards, dominating the Bulls with 24 points in an inspired comeback.

Trailing 13 points to the Bulls, Nene, along with Trevor Ariza’s 18 points and a magical Bulls performance, would help their side to win by a nine-point margin.

In their first playoff appearance since 2008, the Wizards were the victors after an 18 – 6 run in the final six minutes of the game to win emphatically.

Nene opened up his dream game with a dunk from the opening session after Wizards’ opening tip. Down the stretch, the Wizards really got going.

Joakim Noah set up some jitters for the Wizards, along with Butler tying it with free throws. Although this wouldn’t last – Nene and Gortat scored to open up a four point margin.

With 34 seconds left, Marcin Gortat hit a pair of free throws and a jump shot to give Wizards the all-important lead.

Wizards vs. Bulls: Game 1 Score and Twitter Reaction from 2014 NBA Playoffs

Blazers Leave Rockets Out Of Fuel Late

Score: Portland Trail Blazers 122 – 120 Houston Rockets
Location: Toyota Center, Houston, TX, USA.
Tip-off: Sunday 20th April 2014/Monday 21st April 2014 (US/UK), 2:30am BST (9:30pm ET)
Highest points: LaMarcus Aldridge (POR), 46 pts.
Highest rebounds: LaMarcus Aldridge (POR), 18 res.
Highest assists: James Harden (HOU), 6 asts.

Portland Trail Blazers won in overtime in Houston, after LaMarcus Aldridge scored a career-high 46 points and also broke the franchise playoff record.

Although being fouled out late in overtime, Aldridge’s contributions had been pivotal for his side, while Damian Lillard scored the vital final five points, including a pair of free throws, to edge out the Rockets.

To add to his 45 points, Aldridge contributed a hefty sum of 18 rebounds and two blocks – an emphatic game.

James Harden, although scoring 27 points, missed the opportunity to tie it with his jump-shot from the buzzer, while missing a three-point attempt in the play prior.

There was a whopping total of 79 free throws – a physical game to say the least.

Twenty seconds after Lillard’s three-point play in the final minute and free throws from Garcia and Howard gave the Rockets’ a slender 120 – 119 lead with less than half a minute left on the clock.

Patrick Beverley re-injured the right knee that kept him out of action in previous weeks, coincidentally on the same play where Aldridge fouled out for the offense on the young point-guard.

Lillard, finishing with 31 points, made the final two free-throws in overtime to complete the thriller, as the Blazers returned to the playoffs with an enormous win.

——————————-

Well, that’s all from the first phase of the playoffs. Game 1, Round 1 – check.

The best of the eight games was Rockets vs. Blazers – a late, nail-biting thriller to culminate the first part of the NBA Playoffs, you’ve got to love overtime in these situations.
