Andy Murray saw off Fernando Verdasco to book a place in the last four of this years championships after a brilliant comeback.
Murray found himself two sets down but produced a remarkable comeback to turn the match on its head late on and steal a shock win from Verdasco at the death just as the match seem poised to be settled on a tie break. Verdasco was impressive, firing venomous forehands and elegant backhands to flummox the Scot and seemed set for a shock victory over the number two seed. However, with the full support of the crowd, Murray was roared on to victory and cruised the third set 6-1 and won the fourth with less ease.
Late on in the fifth, Verdasco and Murray were matching each other and showed the same passion and desire to get into the semis but the Scot broke serve with the aid of a double fault by Verdasco and will now face Poland’s Jerzy Janowicz in Friday’s semi final.
