UFC FIGHT NIGHT 30: Machida Victorious as the Octagon Steps Back on English Soil in Manchester

MANCHESTER – Lyoto Machida made his mark on the Middleweight division with a head kick knockout to Mark Munoz when the UFC went across the pond back to England.

The preliminary bouts included Luke Barnatt defeating Andrew Craig, but it was a different story for another Brit, Rosi Sexton, who was dominated by Jessica Andrade and took some big damage in the fight.

Opening the main card, John Lineker scored an emphatic knockout victory over Phil Harris two minutes and fifty-one seconds into the bout. Lineker had Harris against the cage before finishing with a powerful body shot causing the referee to stop the fight.

Nicholas Musoke made his name in the UFC after scoring a great Round 1 Submission victory against Alessio Sakara. They fired big shots and traded them early, before the fight went to the ground. Sakara escaped the guard but then Musoke quickly grabbed the arm to finish it with a belly-down Armbar as Sakara verbally tapped out.

Norman Parke also defeated Jon Tuck via Unanimous Decision. Another British prospect shines at the event.

London’s own Jimi Manuwa scored yet another finish against Ryan Jimmo. Having landed big strikes throughout the bout, a knee in Round 2 would lead to the finish, as Jimmo’s hamstring gave way and he fell to the mat with the referee calling a stop to the fight. Probably not the way that Manuwa wanted to win though.

The co-main event between Ross Pearson and Melvin Guillard ended in a draw after an illegal strike from Melvin Guillard to Ross Pearson. Very controversial as it was a knee when Pearson was down. The Manchester crowd reacted savagely to express their anger at the decision.

In the main event, Lyoto Machida entered the Middleweight division in style with a head kick knockout to Mark Munoz. Munoz was unable to wrestle early in Round 1 and had to adopt a stand-up battle with Machida. The Dragon adapted on Munoz having his hands low to land a head kick sending Munoz crashing to the mat.

Machida showed his true sportsmanship by waiting for the referee and not finishing Munoz with any unnecessary punches showing respect to his friend, Munoz.
Another wild night as the UFC steps back on British soil. Lyoto Machida has entered the Middleweight division with an emphatic knockout.
